Title: What I Benefit Most from the Newspapers 高中組 第一名
二年級 吳南逸
指導老師 林智惠
If you ask me what is the most significant invention in the
long and brilliant human history. I would firmly put forth the answer
"newspapers". Why newspapers? Learning from the past, we see that
messages transported slowly in the ancient times and people could not
be well informed or even get to know the facts; therefore, civilization
was growing in the speed of the snail. After newspapers were invented,
everything is different. Man no longer rides on horseback to deliver
information and can get to know what happened simply without going
anywhere. Thus, a new world begins. It is just like what a Chinese
proverb says, “A scholar may learn the whole world without going out
of his room.”
Though there are so many advantages in the newspapers, I benefit
most from my favorite part —"editorial". I remember when first I was
given a newspaper, I was stunned at so many pages a newspaper can have.
Then, after a few seconds, I tried to calm down and start from the initial
headlines. As I read along I felt bored and sound straightly came out of
my mind, “ How could they report such an easy task in thousands of
tedious words? " Suddenly, just right on the next page, a title appeared
"Editorial". After I got through the reading, I had a conclusion "It’s
the best part of a newspaper!" Why should I think it the "best"? The
answer is simple—the other parts of the newspaper are all too easy for
us everyone. Compared with them, the editorial seems to be more
interesting and right-to-the point. Besides, through reading this part,
one may come to realize the truth and the most significant meaning of a
single affair. That's why I love it.
Another reason why I enjoy reading the editorial is that it
doesn't take long to read it. The whole articles of the editorial take
10 minutes on average. This is very economical for us modern people who
have plenty of work to do and dozens of things to worry about. If you
feel that finishing the newspaper thoroughly seems to be time-consuming,
editorial is your best choice. For me, who am busy preparing for the
Joint College Entrance Examination and take tests one after another,
really, it is an elixir both to save time and get to know what has
happened or what is going to happen in the rapid-changing world.
Now, every time I have a chance or time to read the newspaper,
first I turn to the right page where the editorial is located and begin
to read attentively. After reading it one or two times, I will start to
think "what is the writer try to explain? What's the main point? What
did I learn from it ?" And one by one, I start to make a good answer.
You can never imagine what great fun I have in doing all this! Sometimes
I attempt to look at things in different ways, assuming that I was "for"
or
"against" the proposal and then things would be different. The remedy
for a single thing is of various kinds, and when you analyze it in a
smart and broad way, I am sure that what you gain is not only knowledge
but also wisdom.
A famous statesman once said, "It is easy to look on the appearance
of things that's not a big deal. But when you look deep into it, there
would be something else. Yes! The "something else" can be found in the
editorial! It is something that makes one wise, something that makes one
look forth, broader and deeper, something that I enjoy and live on, since
I was twelve. Where can you find it ? It is in the editorial that I like
most and benefit most from the newspaper.
