[SCMP Young Post]2009-1-18 American-Chinese singer-songwriter Khalil Fong is back with his fourth album, Orange Moon. The Hawaiian-born artist is known for talking about love of all kinds, be it for his fellow man on his debut Soul Man, or respect for the Earth on his third album Wonderland. Like Fong's sophomore release This Love, Orange Moon focuses mainly on romance - and if his music is anything to go by, the singer has a pretty positive outlook on relationships. What's great about Fong is that, like his hero Stevie Wonder, his music has an important message and manages to transcend boundaries. Altough he sings Mandarin on nearly all the tracks, non-Chinese speakers can still apperciate his music. Opening track Singalongsong is a fun, catchy tune which sets the scene for the rest of the album: Fong is said to have wanted to make this a record that easy to sing along to. This is followed by the infections Little Bug, the acoustic-guitar-filled, upbeat dancey number 1234567and the jazzy, groove-driven Black & White and Perhaps Love. Most of the songs are upbeat, feelgood tracks but, as is required by any love album, there are a couple of solid ballads. If you like your vocals as smooth as honey and music you can have fun to, you can't really go wrong with a Fong album. There's even a bouns hidden track, so don't miss out.
