Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 Taiwan Doesn't Regret Jackson Pop Award TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) - When pop star Michael Jackson performed in Taiwan's second-largest city in 1996, the mayor gave him a meritorious achievement award, a move that infuriated some politicians. Although Jackson has been arrested on child molestation charges in California, the politician who gave the award to the singer said he has no regrets. ``We were only honoring his artistic achievements,'' said former Kaohsiung Mayor Wu Den-yih, now an opposition member of parliament. ``We weren't honoring him for his morals,'' Wu said. ``We kept the two things separate.'' The singer has said on his new Web site that the allegations are ``predicated on a big lie'' and that he will be exonerated in court. Two city councilors said they objected to Jackson's award because of earlier allegations the singer had improper relations with children. The allegations never led to criminal charges and in 1994 the investigation became inactive. Jackson had maintained his innocence but reportedly paid a multimillion-dollar civil settlement. -- 自戀.......... ~~~ ~~~ 是一段浪漫的開始......... -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 210.85.170.94
