"Paul is going to be our coach through the end of the season, and Geoff will
remain with us, no doubt about it," Gavin Maloof said. "We're going to stick
together and know the future is bright. We have a lot of cap space, and we're
going to use it and know that brighter days are ahead."

"Let's face it, it's been extremely frustrating for everybody all across the
board," Petrie said. "You've got to acknowledge it for what it is. We're not
playing at the level of expectations that we set for ourselves at the start
of the year."

"We still have to focus on what we're going to try to accomplish the rest of

"I was hired to be an even hand with experience to help rebuild this team,
understanding there would be some rough spots," Westphal said. "Not for one
second have I felt the Maloofs have changed from that job description. Not
once have I not felt Geoff and I haven't been on the same page."

Westphal said the decision wasn't made in a vacuum and he had Cousins' long-
and short-term success in mind. Westphal said Cousins wouldn't be a starter
until he shows the professionalism that is expected.

"That goes for from his concentration in the meetings, his effort in practice
when he's asked to do things that involve repetition," Westphal said. "Are
you going to do them hard, or are you going to just kinda drift through them?
It's all a part of professionalism, and it all shows up in the games."

Petrie said he supported Westphal's decision to bench the rookie, along with
earlier discipline, which included kicking him out of practice Nov. 29 and a
fine in October for a verbal dispute with the training staff.

    Petrie說他支持佛的決定。

"I find it a curious decision to bench a productive young player for
something that had nothing to do with the game's outcome," Cousins' agent,
John Greig, said in a statement. "I'm sure we all can agree that there are
many areas of the Kings that need greater professionalism and improvement
right now. I told DeMarcus to take it as an honor that such a significant
amount of criticism is focused on his mistakes. Great players live with
greater expectations."

    「我覺得把一位年輕有才華的球員放到板凳是個奇怪的決定，這也對比賽沒啥幫助。
」表弟的經紀人John Greig說。「我確定國王有不少地方都需要更專業和更進步。我告訴
表弟，這些批評都是在提出他的錯誤。偉大的球員當然會有更多的期望。」

"I'm not going to hang people out to dry, and I'm not going to overly defend
myself when everyone's trying to improve the situation," Westphal said.
