Geoff Petrie and Wayne Cooper were all smiles at halftime, when Terry
Porter's number was being retired and the proud group of former Portland
Trail Blazers marked the moment with goodwill and cheer.

But the Kings' front-office men didn't enjoy what came next nearly as much,
as their team was retired 109-77 at the Rose Garden on Tuesday to even their
record at 1-1 in the Kenny Natt interim era.

Natt's second go-round was nothing like the first, with the same team that
shot 50.3 percent in a rout of Minnesota on Monday misfiring at a 31.6

Which, after all, remains the directive. Having been handed the reins after
the firing of Reggie Theus on Monday morning, Natt admitted he hoped the
"whirlwind" would slow down after a chaotic start to the week. While Theus'
firing was surely seen as a likelihood for weeks, it had been just 22 days
before that the Kings were one play away from upsetting Portland on its home
floor in a 91-90 loss.

of their 17 turnovers translated into 14 Blazers points.

technical free throws to spark a 15-5 run in which he scored the first 11
points and the Blazers led 54-42 at halftime.

Even the ceremony for Porter couldn't slow Roy down. Having scored 30, 33,
and 38 points in the latest losses to Orlando, Utah and the Clippers, Roy
opened the third quarter with two more baskets that prompted Natt to call
timeout just one minute, 11 seconds into play. It didn't pay off, as Portland
would continue a 25-11 run that pushed its lead to 26 points, but Udrih said
it was a revealing decision.
