這篇文章後來還有補上下半部 我簡單翻一下   XD Q:Does the incredible amount of information these days cloud the situation at all and make it tougher to evaluate players or just enhance the process? Is there information overload at any point? Q:大量的情蒐是好還是壞? A:I think information is a good thing. I really do. And everybody's different. You have to make some choices about what … you think is important and what's not. It's an ongoing process year after year and season to season, but it's still a long process between now until (June 25). Nobody's right all the time. A:我想是好的 重點是要懂得過濾 當然 在選秀前 變數依然很多 Q:Your reputation of going outside the box, picking guys who surprise people and having that pay off, goes way back. Do you relish finding the mystery guy and go out of your way to take that approach, or has it just worked out that way on occasion? Q:你總是在選秀有神來之偷 怎麼辦到的 A:It's not like it's something you're looking to do. I think it comes down to trying to get a look at as many players as you possibly can, keeping an open mind. Sometimes the conventional wisdom is right, and sometimes it's not. But for the most part, it's a very intriguing process, and I don't think there's any one part of it where you can say, "Well, this is the Holy Grail. I'm just going to look at statistical analysis, and that's going to tell me who I should take." Or "I'm not going to even pay attention to that and just watch as much tape as I can." It's all these different parts coming together and then hoping you have the right moment of enlightenment at the right time. You've been doing it a long time. When it comes to talent evaluation before the draft and everything leading to that day, where does that rank for you? 這中間的樂趣何在?到選秀那天前所做的事 有沒有個優先順序? A:Listen, the fact that we struggled so mightily this year, I think it has been difficult. But with the draft now, there are reasos to be excited. We're going to have the best pick we've had in a long time, and we want to do everything we can to get as good a player there as we can possibly get. So there's an excitement to that. In many ways, (when) we have the ability to get on the court and work players out … I've always enjoyed that part of it. A:恩 今年我們很多事要做 最開心的事 今年我們有相較以往最好的順位 而我們爲了選到好球員而努力的過程 這就是樂趣 能夠邀請那些天份來球場測試 這是我最愛的部分 Q:I spoke with Bubba (Burrage, the Kings' advance scout), and it sounded as if, with the way the season had gone, it was decided about a month ago that he would start emphasizing advance work relating to NBA opponents less and help with the draft scouting. You have Scotty (Stirling, director of scouting) obviously playing the role he always plays, Keith (Drum, regional scout), Mike (Petrie, regional scout and Petrie's son) is a big part of it now, Coop (basketball vice president Wayne Cooper), Jerry (Reynolds, director of player personnel), and I had heard that assistant general manager Jason Levien was taking part in it, too. We have some people, like Bubba, to cover some conference tournaments because we couldn't cover them and just to have the coverage we wanted to have. Bubba went to the Conference USA and (minor league scout) Steve Shuman … went to the (Southeastern Conference tournament). They've both been around a long time, even though they hadn't been (helping scout for the draft) previously. But I've got to assume there is a certain hierarchy to who you listen to and how you differentiate when it comes to gathering opinions. How is that process for you? Q:你如何去吸取選秀團隊中不同人的意見? A:I've always tried to be as democratic as you can be in terms of making sure everybody has a chance to express an opinion or to be involved. Some of that tends to be a little bit of trial and error type of discussion. It's like a lot of things. You end up talking about the same things a lot, and going back and reviewing them. … If you can generate a consensus that you're comfortable with, things just work better.
