Webber files lawsuit against shoe company

Kings forward Chris Webber has filed a lawsuit against his shoe company for
breach of contract, conspiracy to defraud and a host of other accusations
stemming from a multi-million dollar sneaker deal gone bad.
Webber alleges that Los Angeles-based LL International Shoe Company and its
brand of Dada Footwear has cost him at least $7 million in lost income and
profits during their nearly 2-year-old deal.
The complaint also alleges that while Webber was promoting the Dada brand,
shoe company executives failed to take his creative suggestions; to issue
him company stock; to provide him a required accounting of company revenu-
es; and improperly removed Webber as president of LL International's sports
division.
Filed Oct. 28 in Sacramento County Superior Court, the complaint names the
LL International Shoe Company and its executives, Lavetta Willis and Lantz
Simpson, among others. Webber also claims that Willis and Simpson diverted
the company's money into their own pockets.
"There's no basis for the complaint," said Willis on Thursday. "I would
like to work things out with Chris Webber."
Simpson could not be reached for comment. Webber also could not be reached.
Webber has appeared in Dada ads since January 2002, most notably a stylized
television commercial depicting him working out in Dada gear. Webber and LL
International entered into their agreement in January 2002, according to
the lawsuit.
According to Webber's suit, he was promised "co-ownership" of LL Internation
-al along with Willis and Simpson with the goal of launching, building and
maximizing earnings in sports apparel and footwear.
But by October of this year, the relationship had deteriorated to the point
that Webber terminated his involvement with LL International, according to
the lawsuit.
