Fourth Quarter Surge Carries Kings

SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 14 (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings
surprisingly used their defense to spark their offense.
Mike Bibby scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half as the Kings
rallied for a 101-87 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, who again
played without superstar Tim Duncan.
The Kings (49-17) caught the Indiana Pacers for the NBA's best record,
which offers home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. But for three
quarters, they struggled with the Spurs, who continue to show they are
more than a one-man team.
Two free throws by Brad Miller and a 3-pointer by Bibby opened the fourth
quarter and gave Sacramento the lead for good at 73-68.
The best offensive team in the NBA, the Kings then flashed some defense.
Bibby and Doug Christie turned steals into layups, with Christie adding
a free throw.
"One person got in the passing lane and it rubbed off on everybody else,"
Bibby said. "That just got our energy going. We started making steals and
getting easy baskets, getting fast-break points."
"That was just the defense coming up when we needed it to," Miller said.
"We shut them down and had them flustered where they were just kind of
running around."
Miller's jumper made it 82-71 with 8:06 left, and Sacramento led by double
digits thereafter, allowing just 19 points in the fourth quarter.
"That's something (defense) we've got to get better at," Miller said.
"Playoff games will be in the 80s and (with) a lot of hard fouls, a lot
of mood swings. That's kind of an example of what we're gonna need to do
in the playoffs to be successful."
The Kings had 14 steals -- four by Christie and three by reserve guard
Anthony Peeler -- both of whom hounded Spurs guards Tony Parker and Manu
Ginobili.
"We had a rash of six turnovers in about seven or eight possessions," Spurs
coach Gregg Popovich said. "Sacramento is just too good for that."
Chris Webber scored 23 points and Miller added 19 and 13 rebounds off the
bench for Sacramento, which avoided back-to-back losses for the first time
since January 23-25.
"We definitely wanted to pressure them more," Webber said. "Doug is
incredible once again, keeping a guy like Parker in check like that."
Ginobili scored 16 points and Rasho Nesterovic added 14 and 13 rebounds
for the Spurs (44-23), who fell to 5-3 without Duncan. The two-time NBA
MVP has played just 15 minutes since suffering a left quadriceps injury
on February 26.
"We've had those problems before (with Duncan) with the fourth-quarter
meltdowns," Spurs forward Malik Rose said. "It's not like he's the end-all
solution to that problem. But it would have definitely helped having him
here."
The Spurs held a 47-46 halftime lead and widened it to 63-55 on a runner by
Parker midway through the third quarter. But Bibby scored 11 points in the
period, which ended in a 68-68 tie.

Mike Bibby scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half, and the Kings
got nasty to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in Sacramento for the first
time in more than two years, 101-87 Sunday.
Brad Miller had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Kings, who had a 23-7
run early in the fourth quarter. Sacramento also abandoned its finesse
game to bully and outwork the Spurs, who were without the injured Tim Duncan.
Chris Webber had 23 points and eight rebounds, and Doug Christie made
several impressive defensive plays in the fourth quarter as Sacramento
roared ahead for its fourth victory in five games.
Peja Stojakovic added 18 points for the Kings, who got an early taste of
playoff ball. Without their star, the Spurs forced Sacramento to play slow
-tempo, defensive basketball.
Manu Ginobili scored 16 points and Rasho Nesterovic had 14 points and 13
rebounds for the Spurs, who had won three straight in Sacramento. San
Antonio was one of just five opponents to win at Arco Arena this season,
beating the Kings last month on the strength of Duncan's 28 points and
14 rebounds.
But after controlling the game early and entering the fourth in a 68-68
tie, San Antonio scored just four points and made eight turnovers in the
first six minutes. Sacramento put on a show, finally running its fast
break and getting open shots with sharp passing.
Bibby was impressive, dissecting the Spurs' defense with drives and hitting
outside shots. Christie scored five points and made two steals in the fourth.
Duncan, the two-time MVP and the Spurs' leading scorer and rebounder, sat
out for the eighth time in nine games with a knee injury. Duncan returned
last Wednesday after missing six games, but hasn't felt strong enough to
get back to regular action.
In Duncan's absence, Nesterovic and Hedo Turkoglu seemed inspired _ though
Turkoglu also got fired up to face the team that traded him last summer in
the three-way deal that brought Miller to Sacramento.
Sacramento got a bit of passion in the second quarter when Malik Rose got
a technical foul for taunting Miller. Moments earlier, Miller and Webber
had sent Rose crashing to the floor on a layup attempt. Rose was immediately
yanked by irate coach Gregg Popovich, and the Kings scored the next 10 points.
Turkoglu's Sacramento friendships aside, these West powers certainly seem
to dislike each other: Nesterovic and Christie ran a steady stream of trash
talk at each other in the second half, and almost nobody helped an opponent
off the floor.
Miller and Bruce Bowen also collided at midcourt while Miller was screaming
to celebrate a jumper with 8:02 to play.
"Hey, man, shut up!" Bowen said.
Notes: Sacramento used just seven players until the final 2:13, when Darius
Songaila and Rodney Buford got in. ... Kings G Bobby Jackson missed his 13th
straight game with an abdominal strain, while F Gerald Wallace missed his
ninth straight with a sprained foot. ... The Spurs face reeling Golden State
on Monday night before returning home. Duncan will be re-evaluated before
the game.

今天緯來轉播提到去年 Doug Christie 是防守第二隊,事實上是防守第一隊。
然後如果沒聽錯的話,文大培說 Bobby Jackson 已經連續缺席十一場比賽,
事實上是十三場。
