SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 5 (Ticker) -- Latrell Sprewell authored the finish
of the latest overtime thriller between the Minnesota Timberwolves and
Sacramento Kings.
Sprewell scored a season-high 37 points, including two clutch jumpers in
overtime, as the Timberwolves dealt the Kings their first home loss of the
season, 112-109.
"For basketball people, this is what they want to see," Minnesota coach Flip
Saunders said. "This is what NBA basketball is all about. Teams going at it,
going up and down, playing aggressively both offensively and defensively."
"We knew that it would be very competitive," Kings center Vlade Divac said.
"We knew they would play hard because they are one of the best teams in the
West. It's always interesting to see this matchup."
It was the fourth straight overtime game between the teams, an NBA record.
Both teams squandered double-digit leads before Minnesota's Kevin Garnett
-- who had a season-high 33 points and a career-high 25 rebounds -- forced
overtime with a pair of 3-pointers around two missed free throws by Brad
Miller.
The extra session belonged to Sprewell, who made 14-of-20 shots on the night
. He backed in for a jumper, giving the Timberwolves the lead for good at
108-106 with 1:39 left. After Miller split a pair of foul shots, Sprewell
spun away from a defender for another jumper and a 110-107 advantage with 39
seconds to go.
" We just wanted to execute down the stretch, " Sprewell said. "We didn't
really do a good job of that in the fourth quarter, we let them get back in
it. We felt like we had a second opportunity to get back in the game and I
think we took advantage of it."
Mike Bibby, who scored 15 points, missed a reverse layup, then allowed Sam
Cassell to slip past him for the clinching layup with 11 seconds to play.
Cassell scored 26 points.
"Sam was killin' 'em tonight," said Garnett, who had his third 20-rebound
game of the season.
Miller had a career-high 35 points to go with 10 rebounds for Sacramento,
which had an eight-game winning streak snapped. The Kings had won their
last 17 regular-season games at ARCO Arena, including their first 10 this
season.
"We feel like they stole one from us and I guess it kind of evens out,
because I'm sure they feel like we stole one here, " said Sprewell,
allluding to Minnesota's 125-121 home overtime loss to the Kings on Nov. 5.
"We fought hard but we didn't play smart ball in situations," said Kings
guard Bobby Jackson, who scored 17 points. "We missed free throws when we
had a chance and they made some big threes."
Sacramento trailed by 11 points in the fourth quarter but surged to a
102-96 lead on a jumper by Bibby with 29 seconds left. Garnett answered
with a 3-pointer just three seconds later.
Miller, who had made his first nine free throws, was fouled right away.
But he missed both, and Garnett made him pay by drilling another 3-pointer
to tie it with 11 seconds to play.
"We knew a guard wasn't going to stop him from shooting at the top of the
key," Cassell said. "So we threw it to him and once he made it ... we knew
he was going to drop the next one."
"I'm not afraid to let any shot go," said Garnett, who was 1-of-8 from the
arc this season coming into the game. "I let it go and it felt good, didn't
even think about it. I'm trying to work on reaction and not thinking too
much."
The Kings led by 11 points in a furious first quarter before settling for
a 36-28 lead. The Wolves closed to 56-55 at halftime, then used an 11-0
run to open a 74-61 advantage in the third quarter.
Minnesota shot 52 percent (45-of-87) from the field. Peja Stojakovic had
18 points and 11 rebounds for Sacramento.

灰狼三劍客抓狂 國王遭噬主場破功

灰狼與國王這兩支西區勁旅今天(六日)在 ARCO Arena 進行慘烈廝殺，結果灰狼竟然
只靠三人 Kevin Garnett、Latrell Sprewell、Sam Cassell 就解決國王，不過過程
卻是相當驚險，直到延長賽才以112比109分出勝負。
第一節國王靠著全隊高命中率以36比28取得領先，但灰狼在二、三節大舉進攻，分別
拿下27、25分，期間國王只進帳20、15分。不過國王第四節全力反擊，在最後二分二
十一秒終於以95比94超前比數，並在最後二十九秒的時候將比數拉開到102比96。
但此時 Garnett 靠著今天絕佳的手感，先在剩下二十六秒的時候投進三分球，然後在
剩下十一秒時接獲 Sprewell的助攻球，再砍進追平比分的三分外線，好不容易將戰況
打進延長賽。延長賽三劍客發揮合作無間的默契，連手拿下全部的十分； 國王只獲得
七分，終場三分分出勝負。
灰狼全場雖只有三人得分兩位數，但Sprewell三十七分五助攻、Garnett三十三分二十
五籃板六助攻三火鍋、Cassell二十六分五助攻，三人就包辦全隊八成六的攻勢，讓國
王疲於奔命。
國王則有四人得分兩位數，以 Brad Miller 的十籃板表現最佳，Paja Stojakovic 也
貢獻十八分十一籃板，不過全隊的三成八命中率遠低於灰狼的五成一七。
而灰狼與國王之戰果然不負NBA最佳對戰組合之一的盛名，加上本季的兩次，最近四場
兩隊的交鋒全部打進延長賽才定高下，創下NBA的紀錄，而兩隊也各二勝二負誰也沒佔
到便宜。
不過對灰狼來說這次勝利意義重大，不僅中只國王最近的七連勝，也讓國王吞下本季
在主場的首場敗戰。國王包括本季的前十場，總計跨季十七場主場連勝的氣勢遭到灰
狼的破壞。現在全聯盟只剩下湖人尚未在主場嚐過敗績。
