Postgame Quotes-vs. New York 02/24
Rick Adelman
“I thought our guys really played so much better the second half. Darius
was really good like he’s been since he stepped in and Mike just really
shot the ball well – a little disappointed in Vlade, he had nine assists
tonight, I don’t know what happened. The guys really put forth an effort.
(The Knicks) have got a lot of talent and Thomas really got it going. I
thought we did a good job of trying to contain Stephon so he couldn’t get
to the basket as much as he liked. The situation we’re in right now, we
get wins like this, these are the type of wins we just need to get and
maintain where we are.”
On playing shorthanded:
“I think the hardest thing about it is to get a balance, especially
offensively, because we’re so used to having Brad or Vlade playing in the
game. It kind of changes the way we’re playing somewhat – it puts more
of a responsibility on Vlade and Mike to make sure we get into things.
Darius comes in and plays the way he’s played – he’s ready t o play,
he’s worked his tail off all year – (we’ve) got a lot of confidence in
him because of what we’ve seen all year. I think you’ve really got to
give Peja and Vlade and Doug and Mike (credit), that’s the core group and
they keep this thing together. What Vlade has done since the All Star
Break is just incredible. People don’t really understand what he’s meant
to us in playing these games and that’s what keeps you going through –
those core guys step their game up another level and then the other guys
come in and give us a lift that we need.”

Vlade Divac
“Everyone knows what they have to do; if one person goes someone else has
to step up.”
Are you surprised with how the team is responding?
“No, we have been in this situation a few years before.”
On New York’s play:
“New York is a pretty good team. They have a lot of talent and I am sure
that they are going to get better the more they learn to play with each
other.”
On the upcoming Lakers game:
“It’s going to be a good game. We are going to be short handed, but the
same thing happened (to them) when they came here so it will be even in
that regard.”

Darius Songaila
“I am fine; I am feeling good. I just went out there and was trying to
do my best. Obviously with Brad not being there we needed to play some
defense and get some rebounds. I hope that he comes back soon because we
need him.”
On Divac’s play:
“He’s the guy; when he gets the ball everyone focuses on him. He makes
everyone else look good with the passes that he makes and (he) finds the
open man.”
On getting extended play:
“It feels great. I think that it is everyone’s dream to play as much as
you can.”

NEW YORK KNICKS
Lenny Wilkens
"We played very well for three quarters. We had some opportunities (toward
the end). We missed some shots. And that always hurts you. Especially a
couple of times, we knew what we wanted to do defensively. We anticipated
a couple of switches, which you can’t do. You have to come together and
make it happen. They would hit a three-point shot. And the next thing you
know, you have to fight back out of the hole. But I felt we played hard. A
couple of miscues, but we’ll get better. If we can play this hard every
night, I’ll be happy. We had a couple of shots I thought we should have
used better judgment on. But for the most part, we hit some good shots. "
on Tim Thomas:
"I thought he got a little tentative with the foul trouble he was in. When
that happens to a player, they’re kind of cautious. And earlier, he was
playing with reckless abandonment, which is how you have to play. I think
he feels real comfortable. The more practices, the more walk-throughs he
has, the more comfortable he’ll get."
Forward Kurt Thomas:
"We played well. But we didn’t play enough defense in the second half to
get the win. Sacramento shot the ball extremely well. Peja (Stojakovic)
really got it going in the second half to lead them to a victory."
"Tim (Thomas) played excellent tonight. He shot the ball extremely well.
Whatever we needed from him, he gave it to us. "
Guard Stephon Marbury:
"I thought it was a combination of both (Sacramento playing tighter defense
and their good shooting). They played good defense. But they usually beat
you with their offense. And that’s what they did tonight. They made the
shots that we didn’t make."
On going back to Phoenix:
"We just want to win right now. That’s it."
Forward Tim Thomas:
"The first two games, I was just trying to get more and more familiar with
the system and get more familiar with the guys. I got a couple of practices
in. So, the more practices I get, the more comfortable I’ll be."
"I think the chemistry is coming together. We’re just not winning games.
But that’s going to come. It’s definitely going to come. "
