Peja, Bibby, Light up Nuggets
Stojakovic and Bibby combined to made 14 three-pointers as the Sacramento
Kings pulled away for a 115-92 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
"I just got a couple good looks in the fourth quarter, running the pick-
and-roll with Mike," Stojakovic said. "One time I was wide open because
they doubled Mike, but other times I just kept running."
"The shots were just going in tonight for me," he said. "They were keying
a lot on Peja and that opened a lot of shots for me."
Led by Stojakovic and Bibby, the Kings went 14-of-24 from 3-point range.
"Those guys were awesome all night from three," Nuggets center Marcus
Camby said. "We were unable to contest them and make them miss. They are
such great shooters that most of the time we were just a little bit too
late."
Rookie Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points and Voshon Lenard added 22 for
Denver, which has lost its last 15 visits to Sacramento, dating to
January 7, 1997.
The Nuggets were within 87-83 with 7:18 remaining in the fourth quarter
following a dunk by Camby, who collected 10 points and 16 rebounds.
But Stojakovic, who did most of his damage with Anthony guarding him,
took over, scoring 10 points in a 12-1 run. He hit three three-pointers
in the surge, including one that he turned into a four-point play.
"It's hell guarding Peja," Anthony said. "He's gonna run you off every
screen. Personally, I thought I was doing a pretty good job on him
tonight, trying to get through those screens."
Stojakovic scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and Bibby added eight
as the Kings made 10-of-14 shots in the period.
The Nuggets scored the first 11 points of the third quarter, turning a
three-point deficit into a 62-54 lead. But the Kings answered with a 22
-8 surge, capped by Vlade Divac's layup for a 76-70 advantage with under
two minutes left in the period.

Stojakovic's threes help Kings mine Nuggets, 115-92
Published 6:52 p.m. PST Sunday, February 8, 2004
Stojakovic made a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored 35 points, and
Bibby added a career-best six 3s and 30 points, helping the Kings beat
Denver 115-92 on Sunday.
Stojakovic finished 7-of-11 from 3-point range, and was 11-of-21 overall
from the field for the Kings, an NBA-best 23-4 at home.
"They hit every open 3 we gave them in the second half," Denver guard Earl
Boykins said. "They came down and we weren't good at transition defense.
We weren't getting to the 3-point line. And when we didn't, they made us
pay."
The Kings had lost two of three at home and looked prime for another loss
when Denver opened the third quarter with 11 straight points to take a 62
-54 lead.
Kings coach Rick Adelman called a timeout at that point and displayed his
unhappiness with the defensive effort.
"He was mad. We were made, too," Stojakovic said. "There was no energy at
all. We were letting them do what they wanted."
Later in the quarter, Bibby scored 10 points in a 16-4 run and the Kings
never trailed again. They took an 81-74 lead into the fourth period.
Brad Miller added 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Kings,
who made a season-best 14 3-pointers in 24 attempts. Doug Christie added
13 points and eight assists.
"This is real frustrating, we had it in our hands down to the last eight
minutes," Anthony said. "And they wind up winning by 20 or something."
Andre Miller, who scored a season high 30 points in the previous game
against the Kings, was bothered by the defense of Christie and went
scoreless and had eight assists.
"We didn't let Andre Miller get going," Adelman said. "Doug did a good
job of containing him."
Notes: Kings sixth man Bobby Jackson missed the game because of an
abdominal injury. ... Camby and Vlade Divac were a combined 5-of-20
shooting. ... The Kings made 19 of 22 free throws.
