Kings Run Past Raptors in Win
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 14 (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings had plenty
of offense. The Toronto Raptors didn't have nearly enough.
Peja Stojakovic scored 17 points and the Kings used a huge third-quarter
run en route to a 94-64 victory over the Raptors.
"It's a game we had to get starting this homestand in the next few weeks
and our guys did a nice job," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.
Sacramento outscored Toronto 25-10 in the third period to build a 67-46
lead. The Raptors scored just 28 points in the second half
Toronto entered the game last in offense, averaging 76.6 points per game.
It has not scored more than 87 points and has been held below 65 points
three times.
" We're getting everyone involved in the offense, " Raptors guard Vince
Carter said. "It doesn't matter who starts the play. It's the person who
takes the shot needs to knock it down."
Carter and Lamond Murray scored 13 points apiece for Toronto. But Carter
was just 5-of-21 from the field as Toronto shot 33 percent (27-of-80).
"Defense doesn't have anything to do with it," Carter said. "I just could
n't get the ball in the hole. I just need to refocus and get ready for the
next game. I believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel."
Milt Palacio finished with 10 points and was the only other Raptor to
reach double figures.
"We're missing shots, wide-open shots," said Raptors rookie forward Chris
Bosh, who scored six points. "As time goes on, they'll start falling. It's
not going to be like this too much longer."
"There was obviously no progress made at all in this game," Raptors coach
Kevin O'Neill said. "The way we lost this one tonight was disappointing."
Rookie Darius Songaila added 14 points, Bobby Jackson 13 and Vlade Divac
11 for the Kings. Brad Miller had 10 points and 11 rebounds as Sacramento
bounced back from Thursday's 112-110 overtime road loss to Portland.
"I'm really pleased with the way we responded," Adelman said. "Except for
the last part of the second quarter, we played pretty solid after the game
last night."
Sacramento shot 50 percent (38-of-76) and outrebounded Toronto, 48-34.
The Raptors scored the last seven points of the second quarter to close
to 42-36 at halftime.
