Bibby may have thumb X-rayed He suffers the injury in the first quarter, continues to play and finishes with 18 points. By Joe Davidson -- Bee Staff Writer Published 2:15 a.m. PST Monday, January 12, 2004 The first thing he thought was a fracture. Can't be a break, he pleaded. Not abreak. Mike Bibby jammed his left thumb in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets and studied it on several trips up and down the floor, shaking it as if to heal it. The Kings guard and floor leader said later he wasn't about to ask to come out, not as long as he could still feel the digit. He did bank in a 30-footer at the end of the first half, but he wasn't the same shooting the rest of the way. Bibby had the thumb taped by Kings trainer Pete Youngman, and he gutted out the remaining three quarters, dribbling only with his right hand, avoiding his left as if he were a nervous high school freshman in his first big game. He finis hed with 18 points and four assists, and his coast-to-coast layup with 3:39 left and subsequent free throw capped a three-point play, a nine-point lead and effectively the game, 117-106. Bibby had only one turnover, which wasn't bad for playing one-handed. He still studied that thumb in the dressing room after showering and struggled to put on his Chuck Foreman retro jersey. He said he doesn't need an X-ray, but he might if the thumb continues to ail him today. "I thought I did something bad to it, and it was really hurting," Bibby said. "I wanted to stay in the game. I felt I needed to be in the game. But it was hard. It was hard to feel the ball and to shoot it." Shortly after his three-point play, Bibby showed how difficult it was to grip the ball for a shot when he fired a 15-foot airball, a rarity for a shooter of his ability. Bibby was just 1 of 7 shooting in the second half, his only make the key layup. He did make 7 of 8 free throws in the second half, using the left hand only to help place the ball on his right hand. Bobby Jackson, Bibby's backup who often runs the floor with him, said he knows all too well the pains of hand injuries. He tapes his fingers as if he were an NFL defensive back getting ready for a game. He had his left hand crushed by Shaquille O'Neal on Christmas day last seas on and missed several weeks. "I've jammed every finger," Jackson said. "I know how it feels. Mike's lucky it isn't his shooting hand, but it still limits you. Your hand is your most prized possession, especially for a shooter. Dislocations will definitely mess up your shot." Bibby was still able to run a team that hardly looked like the bleary outfit that was shelled 109-88 in Denver on Nov. 1, the second night of a back-to-back. Andre Miller had just eight points for the Nuggets in that outing, but Bibby had his right hand full of the guard Sunday. Miller had a season-high 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting. "He was good," Bibby said. "He shot well, and he was aggressive." Still, the Nuggets managed only 14 assists (the Kings had 22), and the Kings had 33 points off Denver's 21 turnovers. "They just had active hands," Miller said. "But they just ran away with the game." 希望沒有大礙...... http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/basketball/kings/story/8087480p- 9019918c.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 192.83.167.44
