Kings beat Spurs 96-91
SAN ANTONIO - Bobby Jackson converted a 4-point play with 29.1 seconds letf
to help the Sacramento Kings put down a late rally by San Antonio and defeat
the Spurs 96-91 Thursday night.
After Tim Duncan drove for a layup to bring the Spurs within six points in
the final minute, Manu Ginobili picked off a pass by Mike Bibby and hit Malik
Rose fof a breakaway dunk to make it 91-87 with a 46.8 seconds remaining.
The Kings ran the shot clock almost all the way down before Biddy found
Jackson in the left corner. Jackson hit a fall-away 3-pointer while being
fouled by Bruce Bowen, and he made the free throw to seal the outcome.
Both teams had the long-distance range. The Kings went to 9-for-14 on
3-pointers, and the Spurs 7-for-11.
Duncan paced San Antonio with 35 points and 18 rebounds, while Tony Parker
scored 19 points and Ginobili 12.
The Spurs made their first five shots while building a 16-5 lead, as the
Kings missed eight of their first 10 attempts. But Sacramento scored 11
straight points over a three-minute span to tie the game at 16, and by
the end of the first, the Kings led 27-22.
Duncan made four quick baskets to pull the Spurs to 31-30 at 9:32 of the
second period, but Sacramento's reserves quickly got the lead to double
digits.
Rookie forward Darius Songaila scored nine points on 4-for-4 shooting, as
the reserves accounted for 19 of the Kings' 25 points in the quarter.
In the half, Sacramento converted nine San Antonio turnovers into 13 points
en route to a 52-42 lead at the break.
After their slow start, the Kings made 18 of their final 30 shots in the
half.
Notes: San Antonio had won the previous three meetings between the teams.
This was their first meeting this season. ... The loss ends the Spurs'
league-longest streak of 33 straight months with a winning record. They
are now 7-9 in January with one game left in the month. ... Sacramento
is 3-2 on a six-game road trip that ends Saturday in Seattle. ... The
Kings' bench outscored the Spurs' reserves 34-8.
