The plan was to play more players during Friday night's preseason game, but
the coach was caught up in the moment.

The game was intense, the regulars were playing well and Kings coach Keith
Smart liked the matchups.

Yes, the regular season is getting closer.

With 10 days left before the regular season, Smart is treating preseason
games as if they really count.

After experimenting with different lineups through four games, Smart is
moving toward how he will prepare and use his players in the regular season.

聰明原本在禮拜五晚間的季前賽打算讓更多的球員上場，但下一刻計畫生變了。
比數咬很緊，正式球員打得很好，而聰明喜歡這組合。
正規賽季將近，只剩十天了，而聰明也把季前賽當作季賽來看。
在前四場實驗了各種組合，聰明開始思考正規賽季他要如何運用這些球員。

So after Friday night's win over the Los Angeles Lakers in Las Vegas, the
Kings were at the Los Angeles Clippers' practice facility Saturday and
watched film from that game as they prepared to play the Lakers tonight at
Staples Center.

"Our walkthrough is more like we do during the regular season," Smart said.

"The film work we do now, what's being charted on the bench, everything we're
doing now is the stuff we would do in the regular season."

And just because preparation is more like the regular season, it would be
wrong to assume Smart is going to tighten his rotation to eight or nine
players.

國王禮拜五晚間Las Vegas贏了湖人，禮拜六在快艇隊的訓練中心觀看比賽影片，
並準備禮拜天晚上在Staples Center對湖人的比賽。
"這種練習比較像是正規賽季會做的，觀看影片和一些記錄看圖表，

Smart admired how the San Antonio Spurs functioned last season.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was able to bring one of his best players off the
bench (Manu Ginobili) while also mixing and matching lineups.

That's a reason Smart has used three different starting lineups in four
preseason games. He wanted to see how players performed in different roles
and with different lineups.

聰明很欽佩上個賽季馬刺隊的運作。
波波將他最好的球員馬妞放在板凳上，同時也在嘗試各種不同的組合。
這也是聰明在前四場季前賽用三種不同先發的原因。

"It's been good," forward Jason Thompson said. "I think guys are starting to
play well together. (Smart is) mixing different lineups to see which guys
play well together."

Smart sees the ability to be flexible as paramount to the Kings' improvement.

"We have probably 12 guys who can play," Smart said. "So it's going to be
really hard to say I'm going to stick with this eight-man rotation just
because I've got so many guys that can play. I want to try to get that number
to 10, maybe 11 on any given night."

Smart has reiterated that message throughout the preseason. Now he wants to
see if the Kings can keep their positive outlook on the rotation as games
become meaningful.

Smart wants to know that if he decides to try a lineup to match up against a
unique opponent, he'll have all his players behind the decision.

"(Smart) says that each and every day it can be any guy's night, any night it
could be any guy," said guard Isaiah Thomas. "Guys are just coming in and
giving their all. You never know who's going to lead us in scoring, lead us
in assists because in each position there's a talented player."

聰明在季前不斷強調這個訊息。現在他想知道國王是否能正面看待這種輪替。
聰明想知道如果他決定用某種組合針對特定的對手，所有球員會不會支持這個決定。
"聰明說每個晚上任何球員都可能上場，球員只要上場並全力付出。

Smart tried this some last season when he didn't start Thompson against power
forwards with perimeter skills, but such tweaks could show up more.

A decision to change things up in the regular season could test the Kings'
maturity.

"Can we (buy in) during the regular season?" Smart said. "We've got to find
out. I don't know. But if they buy into that, you've got 10, 11 guys that can
help you win a game on any given night."

聰明上個賽季就已經有稍為嘗試，比如面對一些打得較外面的前鋒，
他不會放小湯先發(編按：我猜是Love、Dirk之類的球員)，這種情形會愈來愈多。
正規賽季任何一個決策的改變考驗國王的成熟度。
"我們正規賽季吃這套嗎？我們必須找出答案。我不知道。但如果他們買帳，
你就會有10、11個人幫助你贏球。"聰明說道。

Tonight's game will be key in testing that since Smart doesn't plan to use
the final two preseason games wearing down any of his regulars.

Smart would like to get second-year forward Tyler Honeycutt his first action
of the preseason tonight.

The coach didn't do that Friday night as the intensity of that game led him
to treat it more as he would a regular-season contest.

既然聰明不打算用最後兩場季前賽操他的球員，
(註：通常最後幾場季前賽先發都固定，會上場30min+，我猜是這意思)
今晚的比賽是測試他的想法的關鍵。蜂蜜切今晚也許會亮相。
禮拜五的比賽他沒上是因為比賽競爭強度如同季賽一般。

In 10 days, Smart will not have to pretend that the game counts.
