Seattle has produced some good NBA players, including Dallas Mavericks super
sub Jason Terry.

University of Washington point guard Isaiah Thomas grew up in nearby Tacoma
before starring for the Huskies. He considers Terry a mentor.

But it's Terry's teammate who provides a better blueprint to what Thomas
hopes is NBA success.

Thomas was among six players who participated in Saturday's predraft workout
for the Kings.

While Terry isn't an imposing figure at 6-foot-2, he's considerably taller
than the 5-foot-9 Thomas, putting him closer in stature to Terry's teammate,
José Barea, who is generously listed at 6-0.

Barea has made a big impact in helping the Mavericks reach the NBA Finals,
providing offense off the bench. And as Thomas speaks with teams leading up
to the NBA draft on June 23, Barea comparisons have been common.

"As of right now, a lot of teams say I can come in and be a J.J. Barea-type,"
Thomas said. "I feel the way I've progressed with my shooting ability, I feel
like I'm more of a Damon Stoudamire type. But I love the comparisons to J.J.
Barea. I see what he's doing right now, and I believe I can do that."

Thomas is looking to improve his draft status and move into the early second
round, where the Kings have the fifth pick (35th overall), or into the end of
the first round.

Thomas said he has worked on his shooting to improve his draft stock.
Watching Barea and other smaller guards make an impact is a reason Thomas
said he left Washington after his junior season.

"You can't hand-check, so small guards with speed are taking over," he said.
"Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook aren't small, but they've got speed, and
it's hard to keep a guy in front of you. So I feel like I can use that to my
advantage."

In addition to Terry, Thomas said, Atlanta guard and Seattle native Jamal
Crawford has been helpful. Thomas also includes former Seattle All-Star guard
Gary Payton as a mentor. Thomas said that support is helping him prepare for
the draft, adding that he has worked out with Terry in Dallas.
除了JET，Jamal Crawford一直以來也都很有幫助，而且手套也是他的良師益友。Thomas
說那些支持都幫著他準備選秀，他一直和JET在達拉斯訓練。

"I don't see it too much around the country how the Seattle guys give back
and try to help the youngsters out," Thomas said. "It's always about once you
make it, you help somebody. They're great guys, and I'm blessed to have them
in my corner."

Saturday's workout also included Penn State guard Talor Battle, Washington
swingman Justin Holiday and forwards Jimmy Butler (Marquette), Jeremy Hazell
(Seton Hall) and Delroy James (Rhode Island).

Holiday is the older brother of Philadelphia guard Jrue Holiday, one of the
young point guards touted to be on the rise.

Justin said some often think Jrue is older because he's already in the NBA.
Jrue left UCLA after his freshman season, while Justin just finished his
senior season.

While Jrue was a projected lottery pick who slipped to 17th, Justin is
looking to move up draft boards to the second round.

Justin has worked out for three other teams (Denver, Detroit and the Los
Angeles Lakers) and participated in group workouts in New Jersey and
Minnesota.

Justin (6-6) hopes his ability to defend multiple positions will attract
interest from teams.

"They can see if anything's going to happen, he's going to defend," Justin
said of how teams might view him. "He's going to stop the other team's best
player, and he'll do the best he can that way."
