The Kings announced on Wednesday the signing of third-year veteran Terrence
Williams to a 10-day contract. The 6-foot-6 guard-forward previously spent
time with the Houston Rockets and was selected 11th overall by the New Jersey
Nets in the 2009 NBA Draft.
Williams, who was in attendance for Sacramento’s 119-110 home victory over
the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, says he’s thrilled to be in Northern
California and thinks he’ll fit perfectly into Kings Coach Keith Smart’s
up-tempo, running system.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Williams after his first practice with
the Kings. “In this type of offense, a three can bring the ball up and

Houston with Rick Adelman. I think it helps because every position is
interchangeable.”

Smart is equally excited to bring in the former lottery pick, who will be
wearing No. 55 for the Kings.

flat out play,” the Kings Coach said.

bring to the team.

player, too. He gets out there and uses his quickness and size to his

Along with his athleticism and quickness, it doesn’t hurt that Williams is
friends with most of the players on the Kings current roster. Williams is a
Washington native, like rookie Isaiah Thomas, and is a former Louisville
Cardinal along with Francisco Garcia. Chuck Hayes was a teammate of Williams
while he was in Houston and Tyreke Evans and Thornton are also familiar with
Williams as the trio worked out together in preparation for the 2009 NBA
Draft.

While he thinks Sacramento’s new addition will be a solid contributor, Smart
still needs time to work with the 24-year-old before defining his role.

I need to know the person, see how he works, what his mindset is and just get

Coach Smart attributes the outstanding level of play of late in part due to
the consistent approach the team delivers in practice and individual workouts.

“Our messages have been the same (with) wins or losses,” he said. “We’ve
come in with the same approach to practice, the same approach to individual
workout skills, same approach to everything we’re doing so when we get a

- Late in Tuesday’s game the Kings found themselves led briefly on the
sidelines by perhaps a future NBA coach, DeMarcus Cousins, who entertainingly
sported Smart’s blazer for a few seconds while encouraging his teammates in
the closing moments of Sacramento’s win.

“I just wanted him to understand what it takes to coach a guy like him,”
said Smart with a laugh on Wednesday.
The Kings current coach said he isn’t too worried about No. 15 taking his
job anytime soon, though.
