SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The second half of last season all seems foggy to
Samuel Dalembert.

Dalembert, traded from Philadelphia to Sacramento last June, found out Jan.
12 a devastating earthquake had hit his homeland of Haiti. The center spent
the final three months of the season making trips back and forth to Haiti to
check on family members and friends and provide whatever relief he could.

"I was out there, but I was like a zombie out there," Dalembert said in an
interview with FanHouse of his time the rest of the season on the court. "I
just came out there. I had family and friends who died.''
Dalembert接受FanHouse的訪問時說到
「我在球場上沒錯、但我感到自己像行尸走肉，每當我打完一場球，
可能同時我就多失去了一個家人。」
Dalembert says he's doing better after having learned he had three family
members, none of whom he described as close, and about 10 friends who died in
the disaster. Dalembert said it's helped his recent piece of mind that he's
gotten a number of family members who had been living in tents into some form
of housing.

Dalembert, who has committed to spend $2 million so far for Haitian relief,
was one of three recipients Thursday of the Hall of Fame's Mannie Jackson
Basketball Human Spirit Award. Dalembert said the best thing about the award
is any additional publicity it might bring to those wanting to continue to
help the cause in Haiti.

"It was almost like I was cheating because I knew that I was going to do it
anyway," said Dalembert, joined in receiving the awards by Syracuse coach Jim
Boeheim, who has worked with raising money for cancer, and Alfreda Harris, a
Boston community leader. "But it's nice to be recognized."

Dalembert說。
While world news is no longer focused nearly as much on Haiti, Dalembert said
there remains so much work to do. He said the country looks "about the same"
as it did immediately after the earthquake with the exception of maybe being
"1 or 2 percent better."
當全球媒體對海地的新聞已經退燒時。
Dalembert說其實還有很多工作要做。

That's why Dalembert hopes donations to Haiti will continue.

"Every bit helps," said Dalembert, who has made made six or seven trips to
Haiti since the earthquake, which has killed an estimated 230,000, injured
300,000 and made about one million people homeless.

At the dinner in which Dalembert received his award, he said he got a number
of business cards from influential people interested in making donations. He
got a big hug from Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Charles Barkley.

Dalembert said he already has donated $400,000 for relief and has earmarked
another $1.5 million for an academy he is building for youth. He also plans
to donate about $100,000 to help rebuild a school that collapsed. That's $2
million so far, and there's bound be more.
Dalembert說他目前募集到40萬並且從他原本設立的基金會中提150萬出來。
他還希望募集10萬去重修那些破舊的學校。
目前加起來有200萬左右了，但是一定還會有更多資金流入。
"I've seen more crime,'' Dalembert said of what's been happening in the time
since the earthquake. "I'm seeing more desperation. Young kids are fighting
to survive now."
Dalembert說

With many buildings having collapsed, Dalembert said many people are
relegated to living in tents. That was the case with a number of those close
to him.

"I have been able to move a lot of my friends and family members to better
areas,'' Dalembert said. "That's one of the reasons my mind is more clear
now."

Dalembert's sister, Severin, 17, and brother, Yohanny, 16, have moved to the
Philadelphia area where they are attending Lower Merion High School, Kobe
Bryant's alma mater. Dalembert has been traded from Philadelphia to
Sacramento, but he's not too bothered by that.
他的妹妹跟弟弟已經被安排住到費城的Lower Merion高中去

但他不覺得困擾。
"I think it's a great move," Dalembert said. "It's good to go to a team that
wants me."

Dalembert is looking forward to next season. While he said there is still
much work to do in his homeland, enough has been done that he assures he no
longer will be a "zombie" on the court.
Dalembert準備迎接新球季
同時他也說到他必須作更多的救援公益，
讓自己明年在賽場上可以安心打球，不要再有後顧之憂。
