In 1969, Johnny Cash sang us a story about “A Boy Named Sue” who went
through life despising his father because he gave him such an easy target for
a name. He would later come to realize that his “Pa” slapped that Sue label
on him so he would grow up tough.

Growing up with the name “Pooh” may have the same effect on a child, and
Kings rookie Eugene “Pooh” Jeter has had to deal with his fair share of
teasing.
被叫做Pooh也會在小時被人注意。所以Pooh Jeter也得處理不少他受到的嘲笑。
One of the Kings’ personal trainers, for example, always tells the
27-year-old guard out of the University of Portland that he should have
chosen the number 2 for his jersey. But Pooh (a nickname given to him not
long after he was born by his late grandmother because she thought he
resembled a “pooh bear”) chose the number 5 and has kept smiling.

Unlike Cash’s “Sue” character, Pooh likes his name and actually prefers it
to his birth name, Eugene – and in that sense appreciates his grandmother’s
choice in nickname. In fact, his dad is the only person in his life who
refers to him as Eugene.

Whether it is the name or not, the light-hearted and well-spoken Jeter, who
is a vocal man of faith, has found a niche for himself in the Kings’
rotation as a spark plug, and even a leader who has the ability to come in
off the bench and take control of the offense.
不管名字是怎樣，這位善良又善言的 Jeter在國王輪替中找到了自已的位置，他現在

Head coach Paul Westphal has certainly taken notice of his rookie.

“I’m just particularly happy about Pooh – that’s two games in a row where
he has had a very, very big impact,” Westphal said after the Kings defeated
the Washington Wizards 116-91 last night.

Over the last two games, the 5’11’ Jeter has averaged 12 points, 5.5
assists and 4 rebounds, and has only turned the ball over twice. Jeter has

man has even added some defense – something he tries to motivate other
players with.

Following the game last night, Jason Jones of The Sacramento Bee asked
Westphal what Jeter has done all of the sudden to deserve so much playing
time (he hadn’t played much at all up until last week). Westphal responded
that Jeter had some trouble with defense at the beginning of the season, but
because he has continued to work hard he has made his way onto the floor.

“We thought that he could help us when we signed him; he struggled a little

Staying ready is something former Kings guard (and energy man himself) Bobby
Jackson has been preaching all season to Jeter. Jeter has worked out with
Jackson quite a bit this year and the former Sixth Man of the Year has been
one of his main motivators. Jeter told Bleed Black and Purple that when he
was inactive earlier this season, Jackson repeatedly told him that he had to
stay ready and remain confident, and he did.
隨時準備好是Bobby Jackson這整季以來一直在跟Jeter講的。Jeter今年和Jackson一
起練了不少時間，而Jackson也不停地在幫他加油。Jeter告訴我們，在他早先還未進入登

Jeter acknowledges there are a lot of similarities between himself and
Jackson.

“That’s my role, Bobby Jackson was that role [when he was with the Kings],”
Jeter said.
「這是我的角色，就像當年的Bobby Jackson一樣。」Jeter說。
Sue’s father tells his son that this “world is rough and if a man’s gonna
make it, he’s gotta be tough.” Whether or not that had anything to do with
Pooh Jeter’s grandmother deciding to give him that nickname is anyone’s
guess, but this undersized guard has made it, and he certainly is tough.
蘇的爸爸告訴蘇「世途很艱難，如果你要走出自已的道路，你就要學會強悍。」不管
Pooh Jeter的祖母是不是基於同樣的原因才替他取了這個名字。這尊矮小的控衛的確走出
了自已的道路，他真的是一個硬漢。
