With a multitude of big men acquired by the Kings during the summer, fans
have heard little about former Cleveland Cavaliers’ and Milwaukee Bucks’
forward Darnell Jackson.

Coming to Sacramento in a trade with Milwaukee, Jackson has quickly impressed
the team’s coaching staff. The former Kansas Jayhawk has garnered praise as
one of the most consistent contributors during training camp.

Though Jackson has only been in the League since 2008, when the Cleveland
Cavaliers drafted him with the 52nd-overall pick, compared to rookie big men
DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside, he’s seen as a veteran. So, still
early in his NBA career, Jackson is balancing between teaching and learning
during his third training camp go-round.

“We are basically teaching each other,” said Jackson, after Saturday’s
practice. “We can learn from each others’ mistakes, especially on defense.

granted, and when you’re out there you have to play every possession 100
percent — you can’t take a possession off.”

attitude, is the type of competitor Jackson wants to see in all of Sacramento
’s bigs.

Thompson, meanwhile, has also been impressed with Jackson’s gritty play
through the first two weeks of training camp.

“I’m always glad to have him on my team,” Thompson said. “He’s just a
guy who’s always near the ball, has a knack for getting loose balls,
rebounds, can hit the open shot and has solid post moves. He will do whatever
it takes to help the team out.

Jackson is excited about the opportunity to play for the young, up-and-coming
Kings, and lauds many of the talented players hoping to take the franchise to
the next level.

“From Tyreke (Evans) to (Francisco) Garcia to Jason Thompson to Donté
(Greene), there are a lot of great pieces on this team,” he said. “Just
watching these guys when I wasn’t here, it’s a great young team and just to
get the pieces and put them together, these guys could be a Playoff team.”

Battling a talented group of Kings forwards and centers throughout training
camp, Jackson looks to continue his growth and consistency through the end of
October and ultimately land a place alongside his fellow big man on Sacramento
’s regular season roster.
