[外電] Greene capitalizes on opportunity for more playing time

There might have been a time when the thought of Donté Greene starting for
the Kings meant something would first have to go terribly wrong.
以前如果說到綠綠先發，那第一個反應就是「穩死的」

Greene was buried on the depth chart. The coaching staff wasn't high on
Greene's decision making on the court. Playing time was scarce.
綠綠以前被冷凍起來，上場時間少的可憐

But when an injury forced Andres Nocioni to the bench for last week's game
against Chicago, Kings coach Paul Westphal didn't call on Omri Casspi, the
logical first choice.
但是一切的情況都在酒駕司機受傷後有所改變，西佛沒有叫合理的第一選擇--卡斯比。

Westphal instead turned to Greene, and the second-year forward scored a
career-high 24 points.
西佛的愛轉向綠綠，他也回報了，得了24分。

Greene's versatility has made him a valuable fill-in for Westphal, and that
trend might continue tonight when the Kings finish their three-game trip
against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum.
綠綠的多功能填補了西佛的空缺，而且也許會持續下去。

Greene has started two of the last three games as an injury replacement for
Nocioni and Tyreke Evans. Evans missed Saturday's game in Houston because of
a sprained right middle finger and a sore right ankle.

If Evans can't play tonight, Greene will be ready to start.

Westphal had a reason for starting Greene rather than Casspi last week. It
was a bit of psychology that ultimately could improve the entire team.

"I think when you have a starter go out, it makes sense to jump somebody over
and keep as many players in their comfort zone as possible," Westphal said.
"And also you give a shot of confidence to the player that gets the start. So
that was my thinking, and everybody's responding. And Donté's played real
well."

Greene averaged 18.5 points in his two starts. Saturday, he made all five of
his shots and had 13 points. Greene also continues to buy into playing a more
disciplined game on offense and focusing on defense to earn Westphal's trust.
綠綠兩次先發平均得了18.5分。禮拜六他投5中5得了13分。綠綠也持續在攻守上打得越來
越有紀律去奪得西佛的信任。

"I just attribute (the improved play) to getting in early, getting up shots,
working, not knowing when my number's going to get called," Greene said.

Greene continues to be asked to use his 6-foot-11 frame in ways that are new
to him. He's being asked to use his athleticism to defend shorter players on
the perimeter, which he has done. Greene often mentions his defense as his
way to get on the court.
綠綠持續被要求多方利用他6'11的身材，對他而言很新鮮。他一直被要求用他的運動能力
去防守在外圍的較矮小的球員，他做得很好。

And with more playing time, Greene occasionally has shown he can be a factor
playing more than one position.

"I thought Donté was very, very good," Westphal said after Saturday's loss.
"He was just picking his spots and was versatile. We had him playing some
(shooting) guard, some (power forward) and some (small forward), and he was
real solid out there. Very professional."

Greene won't know until game time tonight if he'll start.

Evans injured his hand Friday against Dallas. The rookie guard is averaging
18.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists.

Evans said he'd only "tweaked" his ankle and that his hand was merely sore.
Tonight would be Evans' first NBA game in Memphis, where he starred for one
season at the University of Memphis.

Westphal, however, won't allow Evans' desire to play get in the way of the
picture.

"If the doctor suggests he not play, he's not playing," Westphal said. "If
the doctor says it's up to the player and the way he feels, then it's up to
the player. I never try to force my will on that kind of thing. There's
always another day if a guy can't play."

Greene's motivation isn't just about this season. The Kings picked up the
option for the third year of his contract next season, but Greene realizes
nothing is guaranteed beyond that.

"You've just got to be ready in this league," Greene said. "I'm trying to get
to my second contract, get some more minutes and show that I deserve to be
out there."
