LAS VEGAS – The battle for consistency can make a player think he's played
better or worse than he realizes.
「穩定性」，是一個球員客觀審視自己最好的觀點。
Take forward Donté Greene, for example, a player the Kings need to be more
consistent.
小綠是國王隊上常常被點名不夠穩定的球員。
Greene knows being more dependable is paramount to earning more playing time.
So much so, one of Green's best games is distorted in memory.
小綠知道要受到重用，首先必須做到讓人信賴，小綠他扭曲了自己生涯最好
表現的記憶。
"I'd have nights where I'd go out there and score 31 and the next night I'd
have four," Greene said.
小綠說「我記得有一場得31分，然後接下來一場只得四分。」
Greene actually scored 13 points in a game following his career-high 31
points in a Feb. 5 loss to Phoenix. But the point is clear for Greene and the
collective minds of Kings' coaches – he needs to be consistent.

Greene has proven he can score in bunches. He can also give some of the NBA's
better perimeter players problems with his 6-foot-11 frame. The question for
Greene, as he enters his third season, is whether the Kings can depend on him
to be a factor more times than not.

"This year, we want to be able to count on him," said Kings summer league
coach Mario Elie. "The thing with Donté is, he'll give you a good game every
eight games. We're looking for that consistency."

This isn't to say Greene is coming off a horrible second season. This time a
year ago, Paul Westphal and the new coaching staff weren't sure what to make
of Greene.

Westphal would later call Greene the most improved King. Greene began to show
restraint on the floor and not launch three-pointers at will. He embraced the
notion of becoming a versatile defender. Greene took turns guarding the likes
of Kobe Bryant, Le-Bron James and Dwyane Wade.

Greene more than doubled his scoring average from his rookie season of 3.8 to
8.5 last season. Better shot selection showed in that he made 37.7 percent of
his three-point attempts after making 26 percent as a rookie.

After playing in only 55 games as a rookie, Greene started 50 of the 76 games
he played in 2009-10. He credits Elie and assistant coach Shareef Abdur-Rahim
for helping him with that improvement.

"I'm glad he gave me some credit because I was his psychiatrist last year,"
Elie said. "Getting on him every game, making sure he's on time for the early

It wasn't easy for Greene to decipher his role among the many small forwards
on the roster last season. This season, it should be clear that the starting
small forward job is there to be had if Greene can be consistent.

Elie said Greene would play more minutes if he focused more on defense.
Greene said he's doing that and is looking to learn the tendencies of his
opponents by studying more.

With Greene's length, Elie says the young player could have a long career
along the lines of Bruce Bowen and himself if he commits to be a defender.

"I'm trying to learn tricks of the trade," Greene said. "Little things that
will help me get an edge on an opponent. Just trying to be consistent, that's
the main thing."

這就是今年最主要的功課。」
Abdur-Rahim said each player masters the art of film-study in their time. But
he noted Greene's decision to come to the summer league is a sign the player
is still eager to learn.
SAR說球員一般看影片學習都很認真，但是他認為小綠決定去打夏季聯盟
是他想學的更多，是認真中的認真。
Abdur-Rahim also noted Greene is taking steps to improve. And at 22, there's
still much Greene has to learn.
他也注意到小綠正在按部就班的進步
今年他22歲，還有一堆等著他學。
"The fact that he wants to work – and he's a third-year player willing to
come to summer league – play summer league and be here with these guys is
commendable," Abdur-Rahim said.
SAR說「他想要學，三年級生還願意打夏季聯盟，這很讓人尊敬。」
At the very least, Greene knows what kind of role he wants to play for the
Kings this season.
小綠說到了今年想在國王打出怎樣的成績
"Somebody who goes out there and is trying to make plays for my teammates,"
Greene said. "Score when it's there and try to be a lock-down defender."
「我想成為一個，能夠讓隊友舒服進攻的球員，有好的機會我才自己得分，
並且成為隊上防守對方王牌的第一把交椅。」
