It wouldn't be too much of stretch to call Francisco García the glue that
keeps the Kings together.

García is the longest-tenured King and is known to help newcomers. When
Darnell Jackson arrived in Sacramento this summer, it was García who he was
in the gym with for late-night workouts.

García offers serious advice on postgame interview etiquette to teammates
while also finding time to poke fun at them. On the court, García is often a
calming presence and a vocal leader.

But the veteran swingman is more than just intangibles.

García is healthy and off to a good start to the 2010-11 season. Following
last year's weightlifting accident and subsequent wrist injury that cost Garc
ía the first 52 games of the season, the Kings have gladly welcomed him back.

Through six games, García is the Kings' second-leading scorer at 14.3 points
per game. He's shooting 53.6 percent from the field. García has made 46.2
percent of his three-pointers (12 of 26).

García probably won't be the leading scorer for the Kings most nights, but
he is one of the most important. Because even if he's not making shots,
chances are García will say or do something that helps out.

"He's been here for six years," Kings guard Tyreke Evans said. "He knows the

García spent much of his offseason in Sacramento preparing for the season.

García played in just 25 games last season, but wasn't himself as he
recovered. So far, the chemistry between García, Evans and Beno Udrih is
evident as García always seems to find the right spot to be in for an open
shot.

"I think they've been doing a pretty good job of finding me," García said.
"I've got a pretty good connection with Tyreke and Beno right now. They're

Kings coach Paul Westphal had to treat García almost like a new player
because of his unfamiliarity with him. Westphal likes what he's seen from Garc
ía thus far, noting that he is able to "give us a spark at either end of the
floor" and praised his shooting ability.

Westphal encourages García to be aggressive on offense. García's shooting,
when paired with Udrih, creates spacing to help establish the post game.

His presence also helps create driving lanes for Evans.

"(Westphal) gives me a lot of confidence," García said. "He always tells me
to shoot the ball. He says, 'When you shoot the ball, we have a great chance
of winning,' and that's what I do."

Udrih said García's comeback shouldn't be understated, since the injury was
to his shooting hand.

Aside from being happy for his teammate's recovery, Udrih said García makes
the game easier.

"Cisco knows how to play ball," Udrih said. "He knows where to go, and when
Tyreke's driving, we know where exactly he is and where to find him."
