Three consecutive losses and a 14-19 record aside, the Kings know they are in
a much better place than they were this time last season.

the addition of three rookies who have put new life into the franchise.

Meanwhile, Jason Thompson toils with little acclaim. And that's fine with
him.

The second-year forward finds he is an expected source of stability this
season. He's the only King to have started all 33 games. His scoring and
rebounding are up from last season. Kings coach Paul Westphal continues to
expand Thompson's role as a facilitator in the offense.

Even Westphal acknowledged Thompson is "getting a little left out of the
discussion" while averaging 14.8 points. Thompson's 9.2 rebounds per game are
17th in the NBA. He averages 3.5 offensive rebounds, sixth in the league.

"We count on him, but you can take him for granted," Westphal said. "It's a
compliment that you take him for granted, but it's still nice for a guy like

Thompson said he doesn't mind that his teammates receive more attention. He
points out he's been overlooked most of his basketball career.

If it wasn't being dismissed as a college prospect or having his NBA
readiness questioned because he played at Rider and not a powerhouse school,
Thompson has become accustomed to being underrated.

In fact, it was a slight last season that left him out as a participant in
All-Star Weekend that motivated Thompson to work on his game.

Rookie-Sophomore game last year," Thompson said. "I think it would be good to

Thompson was excited to see his name on the All-Star ballot and hopes to play
well enough to stay on the ballot for years to come.

Thompson isn't the only sophomore King hoping to make it to the
Rookie-Sophomore game. Swingman Donté Greene worked out with Thompson a lot
in the offseason.

Greene has enjoyed watching Thompson as much as any of his teammates.

"Hopefully, me and J.T. can make it," Greene said. "If not me, definitely
J.T. He deserves it."

Thompson's play hasn't gone unnoticed by the rest of the league. And as
important as the rookies have been, with the resurgence of Beno Udrih,
Thompson is usually an accurate barometer of how the Kings are doing.

Sacramento is 9-3 in games in which Thompson records a double double.
Thompson averages 17.2 points and 9.5 rebounds in Kings victories. He
averages 13.1 points and 8.9 rebounds in losses.

和8.9籃板。

"You know he can play because he had some games and some moments last year
where he kind of wowed you," Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown said. "It's
a year later and he's that much more smarter, knowledgeable about situations,
and it's showing in his play."

For his part, Thompson admits he's still learning to navigate his way with
officials. He still leads the league with 3.9 fouls a game. "It's not like
I've been in this league a while," he said. "As a young team, we're going to
have to go through some growing pains. As a team, not just myself."
小湯承認他還在學習怎麼習慣裁判，他依舊是聯盟犯規王。「這不像是我已經待在聯盟好
一陣子了，身為一隻年輕球隊，我們必須經歷一些必經的痛苦，整個球隊都是，不只是我
自己」
