JT Checks-In From Grgurich’s Camp
小湯的話

I’m writing this from Tim Grgurich’s annual basketball camp, which is put on
by the assistant coach of the Denver Nuggets. I’ve actually attended this camp
every summer since I was drafted.

The camp is held at a high school in Las Vegas, and there are bigs and guards
here. There are about three courts and a lot of NBA coaches — from head
coaches to assistant coaches. We go over a lot of drills and do a lot of
station work. I’m out here working with Hassan and his big brother. I’m
just helping them out by showing them what kind of hard work it takes to be
successful in this league, whether it’s working out from within yourself,
with the college guys, guys just getting into the League or players who’ve
been in the NBA for a while.

寫這封信時我人在Tim Grgurich的年度籃球訓練營，他是丹佛金塊
的助理教練，自從進入NBA後每年我都會來這裡。

訓練營在拉斯維加斯的一所高中舉辦，有許多長人和鋒線球員參加，
這裡有三座球場和許多NBA教練﹝總教練和助理教練都有﹞，我們
在這裡進行許多的訓練課程，我和白邊以及他的大哥一起訓練，我
向他們展示要在哪些方面下苦功才能在聯盟取得一席之地，希望能
藉此幫助他們，不論這些訓練是否能對你發揮作用，至少它在一些
大學球員、剛進聯盟的新秀或者已經在聯盟待了一段時間的球員都
有成效。

I met Hassan when I went to Vegas Summer League. I didn’t play in Summer
League, but I was there to support the team, like Tyreke. I think our new,
young gun out of Marshall is going to have to learn a lot, but he’ll help us
out because we’ve needed his size and length. He’s going to help us on
defense. Then, his offense will come. He has real long arms, and I think for
him, rebounding and blocking shots are going to be the keys early on. Then,
once he gets his feet wet, he can start developing his game, slowing down more
and stuff like that.

Our other new big, DeMarcus, has shown some signs he can be great in a few
years. He’s definitely going to be a big help to the team.

With our addition of Sammy, he has a lot of Playoff experience and he can be
the post defensive presence we need — he is obviously going to help. For
example, if a guy like Rashard Lewis or someone like him goes by me, I can
definitely depend on Sammy or Hassan blocking his shot and making it easy for
us to get out in transition.

我和白邊是在夏季聯賽首次碰面，我沒有打夏聯，但我和Tyreke一
樣都到場為球隊加油，我想這位Marshell大學的新秀還有許多東西
要學，但我也認為他能提供球隊幫助，因為球隊需要他的身高和體
型，他能在防守方面給予球隊幫助，然後他的進攻也會慢慢有機會
展現出來，他的手臂真的很長，籃板和火鍋會是他爭取上場時間的
關鍵，等他站穩了腳步，他就能夠開始慢慢培養其他方面的技術。

我們的新長人表弟也展現了巨大的潛能，顯示他能夠在未來幾年內
成為很棒的球員，他絕對能帶給球隊很大的幫助。

新隊友Sammy有很多季後賽經驗，他的低位防守能補足球隊最欠缺
的部份，舉例說，像是Lewis這型的球員過了我之後，我可以相信
Sammy或白邊能及時補防送他一個大鍋，讓我們能立刻轉守為攻。

It was a little different going to Summer League this year. The vets on the
team – Donte and Omri – led the way. My younger brother, Ryan Thompson,
was on the team. We had the rookies, Hassan and DeMarcus – DeMarcus played
well, especially early on, and he won Rookie of the Month. Like Tyreke and me,
Carl was there to support the team. Tyreke was in Vegas working out for the USA
team. I worked out at “Impact Basketball” and another gym. I also worked with
Kings strength and conditioning coach Daniel Shapiro in the weight room, just
to make sure my body was right. It was different not playing in Summer League,
but I thought it was the best thing for me. I’m really focused on getting
better and stronger – upper and lower body-wise – and I’m still keeping my
coordination consistent with my jump shot. For me, next season is about being
consistent.

今年的夏聯有點不同，由兩隻老鳥小綠和卡卡領軍，我弟Ryan也在
隊上，我們還有新秀白邊和表弟，表弟打的很棒，特別是前幾場比
賽，而且他還贏得單月最佳新人。Tyreke、藍錐和我都在現場為隊
友加油。Tyreke同時也參加在Vegas的美國隊集訓；我在“Impact
Basketball”還有其他體育館做訓練，同時我也和球隊的體能管理
教練Daniel Shapiro一起在重訓室苦練，希望能讓身體調整到最佳
狀態，沒參加夏聯對我而言有些不同，但我認為這對我才是最好的，
我持續專注在變的更好更壯﹝上半身和下半身都有﹞，還有加強跳
投的穩定度，對我而言，下季最重要的課題就是保持穩定。

Even though I didn’t play in our Summer League games, I think it was important
for me to be there. If you look at the teams that finish on top or go deep in
the Playoffs, all those veteran teams have guys who have been there before or
have guys who have played together for a while. For us, our core guys, we
haven’t played together for long. We need to be there with each other not
just on the court, but off the court as well – it really helps. I think the
more you are with each other, the more you play together, it will really help
with team chemistry. So, by Carl, Tyreke and me being there, it will help when
we play with them. It also gives us a chance to share some of the tricks we’ve
learned. Some of the stuff we saw, we could point out to them, because when
you’re not playing you see more than when you’re on the court. So, we told
them different things, and they picked up on them.

雖然我沒有打夏聯，但我認為待在場邊給支持隊友也很重要，看看
那些頂尖的球隊或是季後賽勁旅，那些老經驗的球隊都有在隊上打
很久的球員或是有幾名球員已經一起配合一段時間。而我們隊上，
我們的主力球員在一起配合的時間並不長，所以我們需要花更多的
時間互動，不光在場上，場下也一樣重要，這真的能帶給球隊許多
幫助。我想我們花更多的時間聚在一起，花更多的時間一起打球對
球隊的化學效應是有正面作用的。所以藍錐、Tyreke和我都到場了，
這對日後我們一起打球會有幫助。我們也有許多機會和他們分享經
驗談，我們可以及時提醒他們，畢竟旁觀者清，所以我們能提醒他
們所忽略的缺失，讓他們能及時改正過來。

As for my summer away from basketball, my family is from Jersey, so everything
is pretty close together. I’ve been away to two-or-three different places —
New Jersey, Miami and then Vegas. I’m still looking into going to Israel to
see Omri. Later this summer, I have my brother’s wedding. For the most part,
I’ve just been trying to continue to get better and help the team out, so
hopefully we can make it to the Playoffs.

至於暑假關於籃球以外的計畫，我的家人住在Jersey，所以行程蠻
緊湊的，我先後造訪了New Jersey、Miami和Vegas。我還打算去以
色列拜訪卡卡，，暑假尾聲我還要參加我兄弟的婚禮。不過最重要
的還是練球，期許自己能帶給球隊更多幫助，希望我們能晉級季後
賽。

A new episode of “The Donte Greene Show” is coming out soon! Last year, in
Vegas, we went to “Top of the World,” so it was more of a team thing –
Donte and I trying to survive the high ride in Vegas. This year, it’s a
little different – it’s a real competitive episode. So, I’m on the show
supporting my boy, and hopefully the more we keep going with the show, doing
the Vegas special, it can blow up sometime – stay tuned!

最新一集的綠綠秀快要上架囉， 去年我們在Vegas去了世界之巔，
小綠和我試著在高速駕駛中保住小命。今年有點不一樣，這是決鬥
的一章，所以我參加了綠綠秀以行動支持我的換帖兄弟，希望我們
