Udrih has been reliable most of the season, but his recent statistics have
been better than normal.

Udrih is averaging 17.6 points and 10.1 assists in his last eight games, well
above his season averages of 12.8 points and 4.6 assists.

The sixth-year guard has become a leader this season, one that began with
many wondering what role Udrih would have with the addition of Tyreke Evans.
What's happened is Udrih is on pace to shoot a career-best 49 percent from
the field and has become a valuable asset in the backcourt with Evans.

And even if Udrih hasn't paid him a commission, Theus has enjoyed watching

Theus said.

Some of Udrih's best games recently came with Evans out because of a
concussion. He had a career-high 17 assists March 21 in Los Angeles against
the Clippers. He posted his first career triple double Sunday in Cleveland.

Udrih's statistics, however, don't mean that much to him with the Kings
having lost six consecutive games. He actually laughs at the mention of them.

"I've heard about it, but it's not like I look at what I do," Udrih said. "I
just want to go out there and play.

"Seriously, I don't care about my stats. I'd rather have worse stats and have
a few more wins over the last stretch of the season."

Udrih credited the improved statistics to not having Evans on the floor,
meaning his teammates were giving him the ball all of the time.

With Evans and Udrih, either guard can initiate the offense. Udrih also had
to play more minutes without Evans, giving him more opportunities to score
and find teammates.

Evans wasn't surprised by Udrih's effort.

"I thought he could play well with me on the court or without me," Evans
said. "Because if you're a basketball player, you play and do your job. That
shows he's a good basketball player."

Kings coach Paul Westphal has found Udrih to be more versatile than he
thought. Udrih has played point guard and shooting guard – and he has been a
starter and a reserve this season.

His statistics spiked as the only point guard with Evans out. But Westphal
has said all season Udrih has been a stalwart on the squad, regardless of the
box score.

Udrih said he's "fine with any role" and understood it would take Westphal
time to figure out how to best use him.

Westphal has found Udrih to be a complement to Evans on the floor. Udrih also
has taken to helping Evans with the nuances of the game.

Westphal said. "He's turned into one of the real leaders of the squad and
somebody we can count on very heavily."

Theus credited Westphal's offense for getting Udrih going this season by
allowing him to run pick-and-rolls and remain aggressive on offense. Udrih
has benefitted from the freedom he feels playing for Westphal.

The sets that we have offensively we all feel comfortable," Udrih said.
"We're all moving; we all touch the ball. No matter what role you have,
you're going to have the opportunity to do something for yourself."

If that happens and Udrih continues to play well, he might find Westphal and
Theus looking for a piece of his salary.
