Webber may have surgery date in mind

Kings president Geoff Petrie said Tuesday All-Star power forward Chris
Webber is considering a mid-June surgery date to repair the torn meniscus
in his left knee.

Petrie, with vice president Wayne Cooper, scouting director Scotty
Stirling and regional scout Keith Drum, is in Chicago this week for the
NBA-sanctioned Pre-Draft Camp. Additionally, the coaching staff is in
Chicago for meetings.
一堆行政人員球隊裡的球探這個星期在芝加哥的 NBA-sanctioned Pre-Draft
Camp (選秀會前練習營). 教練員也在芝加哥開會.
"I think June 15 is a target date," Petrie said of Webber's plans for
surgery before attending a league competition committee meeting. "But I
think he's still researching some of his options surgically, in terms of
who will do it."
目前是預定六月十五要動手術
Webber還會再尋求一些外科手術的建議來決定找誰幫他做這個手術.
The initial period of rehabilitation predicted for Webber after surgery
was four to six weeks, but Petrie said that truly will not be ascertained
until the procedure is completed.
目前預定手術後的復健時間差不多要大概四到六週,
不過實際上到底要花多少時間要看手術後的結果再說.
"The most important thing is for him to be comfortable with who is doing
the surgery and then for him to get it done," Petrie said.
Petrie said he has not been involved in the planning for the Kings to meet
the Houston Rockets and center Yao Ming in exhibition games in Shanghai
and Beijing, China.
The NBA had planned to have the games this fall but rescheduled
them for October 2004, it was announced Monday.

新的安排計畫,把時間改到2004年10月.
There was no mention of SARS as a reason for the decision, but it's clear
the inability to control outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome
influenced the NBA's decision.
雖然沒有提到SARS是不是改期的理由之一,不過很明顯"嚴重急性呼吸道症候群"
的確是影響到NBA當局決定.
Petrie spoke of the difficulties of planning an enterprise of this
nature.
"Attempting to put something like this together in what is an emerging
market is a major undertaking," Petrie said. "I think they wanted to get
it done and weren't able to pull it off. But certainly, you want to think
that the health and safety of everybody is taken care of."
Petrie said he is looking forward to making the trip if details are
finalized.
"I think it's a good thing," he said, "and hopefully, it's going to be
a great experience. It's a good opportunity to showcase the NBA game in
China and in that case, it's a real honor to represent the league."

Petrie said he had not heard from Keon Clark or his agent, James Mourer,
regarding their decision to accept or pass on an option they hold on next
year's $5 million contract.
However, Clark did say after the team's Game 7 loss to the Dallas
Mavericks in the Western Conference semifinals that he wanted to return
to the team.
Petrie said he believed Clark had until June 30 to inform the team of
his decision.
