Preseason Q&A With Gerald
Entering his third season in the NBA, Kings forward Gerald Wallace
is looking to have a breakout year. With the offseason trade of
Hedo Turkoglu and the departure of Jim Jackson, Wallace is now in
position to play a key role for the Kings off the bench and put to
use the potential that made him a first-round pick two years ago.
G-Dub sat down with Kings.com this weekend to talk a little hoops.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings.com: You seem to be working hard this preseason trying to
better your game?
Wallace:“I always work on my game, trying to improve as a player
on and off the court. I’m trying to get playing time just
like everyone else, we’ll just have to see what happens
during the season.”
Kings.com: We notice you've been working on your free throw shooting
after practice. How's it coming?
Wallace:“My free throw shooting is great. The coaches try to do
everything to try and make me miss during practice. I like
to make 10 free throws before I leave the court area after
practice. I always mess around with Wetz (Coach Wetzel) to
try and get him into a free throw shooting contest.”
Kings.com: How was your summer?
Wallace:“I didn’t have one. I spent the first month in June doing
nothing after surgery on my shoulder, and then I spent two
months rehabbing. Once I was released by the doctor I came
back to Sacramento and started working out. It wasn’t fun
at all.”
Kings.com: So did you get anything done?
Wallace:“It wasn’t productive, because I spent two months on the
couch. When I got back in the middle of August I had to get
back in shape. Overall though, it did give me a chance to
just chill, put my feet up, and spend time with my family.”
Kings.com: Do you get tired of people talking about your leaping
ability?
Wallace:“It gets boring, only because that’s all the media thinks
I can do. So I try to improve my game and add more aspects.
(Jumping) is something I was born with, and it’s something
I know that I can do—it’s god-given. So it’s not anything
I have to work on, I have to work on everything else.”
Kings.com: How do your teammates help you?
Wallace:“They always tell me that if I’m open to shoot the ball,
and I’d rather shoot a jump shot than always dunk. They
are more concentrated on trying to help me improve my game.”

Pick a number and make it famous.
Remember, the number on your back does not make the player.
