The two biggest elements of the Kings' offseason share the spotlight today.

In the morning is the sort of draft workout that would sell tickets. It's a
point guard battle that could weigh decisively on whom the Kings eventually
pick at the No. 4 spot in the June 25 draft, with UCLA's Jrue Holiday,
Syracuse's Jonny Flynn and Italian League professional Brandon Jennings
taking part.

In the afternoon, Paul Westphal will be publicly introduced after accepting
the Kings' coaching job Tuesday evening. Westphal arrived in Sacramento on
Thursday night and was expected to join Kings basketball president Geoff
Petrie and other team representatives for dinner.

The former Phoenix and Seattle head coach who was Dallas' executive vice
president of basketball operations last season will be at the workout, too,
ready to take part in the latter stages of the draft process. But while

Kings' first pick, Sacramento continues to wait and wonder what will become
of the draft's most prominent point guard.

Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio is expected to interview in Sacramento, but no

whether he will be available at all.

Rubio, the 18-year-old who has played professionally in Europe for the past
four years, still is attempting to get out of his contract with his Spanish

contract reportedly has a buyout worth approximately $6.6 million. The
situation has effectively put a damper on the hype that surrounds Rubio, with
teams well aware they could draft him only to see him forced to return to DKV
Joventut for another season (although the team would retain his rights). His
buyout reportedly increases by about $1.4 million next season, so the matter
doesn't necessarily get any more manageable.

Rubio and his representatives have asked an arbitrator to settle the matter,
claiming the buyout is disproportionate to his salary (approximately $97,000
last season). They also claim Rubio never signed his contract when it was
drafted when he was 16, although he reportedly did sign an addendum last
season.

Westphal, meanwhile, finalized his contract Thursday. According to sources
with knowledge of the situation, he gets a base salary of $1.5 million in
each of his two guaranteed seasons with a team option for the third worth $2
million. The deal contains incentives that could boost his pay to more than
$2 million next season, depending on the team's record and improvement.

approximately $650,000 to spend on his assistants.
