NEW YORK, October 3, 2005 – New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball
Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that Brendan O’Connor will be
joining Head Coach Larry Brown’s staff as an assistant coach. He joins
Mark Aguirre, Phil Ford, George Glymph, Dave Hanners, Herb Williams and
Greg Brittenham.
With five years of NBA coaching and scouting experience, the
New Hampshire-native has been reunited with Brown after two seasons on the
Hall-of-Famer’s staff on Detroit’s NBA Championship team in 2004 and
Eastern Conference Championship team in 2005.
O’Connor started his NBA career with the Pistons as an advance scout in
2000, and was then promoted to assistant coach/advance scout in July of 2002.
Prior to his days in Michigan, O’Connor has a long and impressive resume of
coaching experience in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA),
United States Basketball League (USBL) and International Basketball League
(IBL). Assisting Eric Musselman with the Florida Sharks of the USBL in 1995
and 1996, the Sharks won the league’s championship both seasons. He also
teamed with Musselman at the Florida Beachdogs of the CBA in 1995-96 and
1996-97. O’Connor was an assistant coach/director of player
personnel with both the Grand Rapids Hoops (1997-99) of the CBA and
Richmond Rhythm (1999-2000) of the IBL.
