NEW YORK, October 4, 2005 – New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball
Operations Isiah Thomas announced today that Eddy Curry and Antonio Davis
have been acquired from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Tim Thomas,
Michael Sweetney, Jermaine Jackson, a conditional first-round draft choice in
the 2006 NBA Draft, two future second-round draft selections and the
opportunity to exchange a future draft choice. According to NBA rules,
the trade is contingent on all players passing their physicals.
Curry, 6-11, 285-pounds, was acquired via sign-and-trade with the Bulls.
During the 2004-05 season, the four-year NBA veteran averaged 16.1 points
and 5.4 rebounds, and shot 53.8-percent from the floor (393-730) in 63 games
for Chicago. The 22-year-old Harvey, IL-native recorded 18 20-plus point games
and six point-rebound double-doubles.
Davis, 6-9, 245-pounds, averaged 7.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in 72 games for
Chicago last season. The 12-year NBA veteran also averaged 9.5 points and
6.8 rebounds in six NBA Playoff games.
Thomas, 6-10, 235-pounds, averaged 11.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 71 games
for the Knicks last season. Originally acquired as part of a three-team deal
from Milwaukee on Feb. 15, 2004, the Patterson, NJ-native ranked 14th in the
NBA in three-point shooting.
Sweetney, 6-8, 275-pounds, averaged 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 77 games
for New York last season. The Washington, D.C.-native was originally drafted
by the Knicks as the ninth overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft.
Jackson, 6-4, 200-pounds, was traded via sign-and trade to Chicago. Last
season, the Detroit, MI-native averaged 2.0 points and 11.0 minutes in 21 games
for the Knicks.
