CHARLESTON, SC -- The Knicks held their third day of training camp today at John Kresse Arena on the campus of the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
Jamal Crawford came to the Knicks in an off-season trade with the Chicago Bulls. Crawford likes the way the team is coming together and likes the style of play the Knicks run.
“The guys are really coming together and we all have the same goal, to win,” said Crawford. “We want to get out and play fast tempo and that definitely is one of my strengths. We’re learning a lot from coach Wilkens and we like our chances this season.”
The mix of veterans and young players has helped the team and will play a big part in determining how the season turns out for the Knicks, according to Crawford.
“Having a good mix of players is going to help us a lot,” stated Crawford. “We have some great veterans here, proven Olympians and all-stars, guys that really want to win. There are no hidden agendas here, we just want to get out there and go for the championship.”
Wilkens has commented numerous times throughout training camp about the play of second-year player Mike Sweetney. Sweetney garnered some attention with his strong play in the Southern California Summer Pro League, which included a 30 point and 15 rebound effort against Golden State. Sweetney believes that the confidence he gained this past summer can only help him this season.
“I learned a lot about the game this summer,” commented Sweetney. “I think that my teammates have faith in me and it should help me a lot this season because I understand everything that much more.”
Coach Wilkens is happy with the way the players have responded to the camp up to this point.
“We have no injuries or bang ups to report. Everyone came into camp in really good shape and I am really pleased about that,” said Wilkens. “We got up and down the court and worked hard today. It was a good workout.”
The Knicks will hold only one extended session of practice on Friday at 10:00am
