Isiah Thomas has been keeping a low profile the past two days which can only
mean one thing — Scott Layden's players are in trouble.
"Isiah is far from done," said an Eastern Conference GM who recently spoke
to Thomas. "I get the impression that he is going to make another deal soon."

Thomas, who returned to his home in Indianapolis on Monday but will be at the
Garden tonight, is looking for ways to make the Knicks more athletic to best
utilize Stephon Marbury's skills. The Knicks and Cavs continue to discuss a
deal for Darius Miles that could include Michael Doleac and Frank Williams
heading to Cleveland.

Another possibility is Portland's Rasheed Wallace, who will become a free
agent this summer. The Blazers would have to take back Keith Van Horn in
order for that trade to work. There is a better possibility that the two
teams will work out a sign-and-trade deal during the offseason.



DEKE DINGED: Dikembe Mutombo is bothered by a sore hip and could see limited act
ion tonight. Don Chaney hinted that Kurt Thomas will play extended minutes at ce
nter because the Knicks can exploit Yao Ming's pick-and-roll defense.

WILLIS TALKIN' ABOUT IT: "He has the chance to be as good as Clyde (Frazier)," W
illis Reed said of Marbury. "And the good thing is, he wants to be as a good as
Clyde."
