Donnie Walsh deserves extension from James Dolan as he's turned around Knicks
with Amar'e Stoudemire
Donnie Walsh deserves the title of NBA executive of the year for the job he's
done with the Knicks, putting together a winner with Amar'e Stoudemire and
Landry Fields (below).

There was a time a few years ago when James Dolan was so giddy at the prospect
of Isiah Thomas actually getting the Knicks into the playoffs that when the
Knicks managed to get into the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference - while the
season was still going on - that he nearly blew out an ACL rushing forth to
give Thomas a contract extension.

The Knicks, of course, didn't make the playoffs that year. They only made the
playoffs one time while Thomas was running the team, an era that you would call
the Madison Square Garden version of the Great Depression except that Thomas
didn't lose fortunes, he just spent them.
當然那年球隊最終並沒有進入季後賽。笑笑湯在位期間僅有一次帶領球隊進入季後賽，那
是一段讓人非常失望的歲月，笑笑湯並非沒有機會，他只是浪費了。
You can only imagine what would have happened if Thomas and the Knicks had made
the playoffs that year, Dolan might have made Isiah coach and general manager
for life.

But he did not. Dolan finally had to fire him, even though you know it nearly
gave him the bends having to do it. It shocked Isiah, who probably assumed that
all the bootlicking he had done with Dolan had made him bulletproof, even to
Anucha Browne Sanders.

in and clean up the mess of bad contracts and bad feelings that Thomas had left
behind. Walsh had as big and hard a job as there was in his sport at the time,
not just somehow getting the Knicks some relief under the salary cap, but to do
something much more important:

That is the real bottom line on what Walsh faced in the late innings of a proud
basketball life that had begun in the Bronx. It wasn't just that the Knicks
hadn't won a playoff game since April of 2001. It wasn't just that the one time
they did make the playoffs on Thomas' toxic watch, they got swept by the Nets
in four games. It was that they had become not just one of the laughingstocks
of the NBA, but all professional sports.
這不過是Walsh在尼克上任后為獲得尊重而完成最基本一件事情。這不是因為尼克上次在季

"You don't just do it to come home," Donnie Walsh said the last time we spoke.
"You do it because you honestly believe you can make a difference."

And that is what he has done. And that is why he would already have had his
contract extended by anybody except Dolan, who only looks like a better owner
now because of one guy: Donnie Walsh. Maybe Dolan is still thinking about a way
to bring Thomas back, which would officially mean he has as much contempt for
his own paying customers as he does the media. And is as much of an idiot about
those fans.
這就是他為球隊作出的。這就是大家都希望能和他續約除了老闆，一位相較於Walsh而言就
只是一位比較好的老闆而已。也許老闆還想要請笑笑湯回鍋，如果是這樣他就會得到球迷
們的鄙視。對於球迷而言就只是一位豬頭。
