在前天湖人對猶他的比賽結束後，Phil Jackson 在預期 Kobe 最快四天後對木狼的比賽
才能再上場的情況下讓他回到橘郡去和家人度個假。兩天後的早上，起床的當兒，Kobe 告
訴自己他已經做好上場比賽的準備了。
他搭飛機到了波士頓時已經接近比賽時分了。他進到球隊的休息室中，和隊上第二年長
的球員打招呼，接著擁抱年齡更虛長些的那位，再來和長相不隨年紀變得慈眉善目的油條
擊掌。
Payton 叫了出來，"Baby boy! You're looking cheerful."
Kobe 帶著笑容回答他，"I'm feeling good."
這時場館內所有紫金軍團中唯一眉毛向下垂的人叫 Gary Vitti。
他雖然知道讓 Kobe 上場實在違背他的專業良知，不過看來似乎沒人能阻擋湖人八號上
場的決心。他幫他穿上準備好的防護設備，隨後在賽前唱完國歌後幫 Kobe 禱告。看到
Vitti 的真情 Kobe 點點頭，他接著和他互擊拳頭表示感謝。
對於他出乎所有人意料之外重返球場的決定，Kobe 表示 "I felt it was all right.
They trust my decision-making. They knew I was ready to play. I felt I was
ready to play. They let me go in there with it."
他這場比賽投籃表現雖然不甚理想，不過還是得到十八分以及十次助攻。即便他場上表
現不太好，他的出現對全隊來說像吃了顆大力丸。而他的拼戰精神再一次得到證明。
Bryon Russel 說，"No surprise, man. He's a warrior, his love and his passion
for the game brought him out and made him play. That's what I admire about him
most."
狐狸說，"A pleasant surprise."
當然 Kobe 上場是將自己暴露在風險之下。他說自己既然球季內傷勢都無法完全復元，
那不如在可以打的時候就直接上場好了。他說，"I felt fine. I felt like if I could
move my shoulder and elevate it and catch with no problem, pass with no problem
, rebound with no problem, then why shouldn't I be playing?"
Vitti 則說，"He knows the risks. Everybody knows the risks."
