偵辦 Kobe 性侵害案的警官和 Mark Hurlbert 出來為自己在案件的處理上作辯護, 並表
示對此案未能在法庭上受審感到失望.
面對先前辯方律師和一般法律專家指責調查員並未做好他們的工作, 並且在檢察官尚未
將所有蒐集到的證據過目前就逕行逮捕 Kobe 一事, Joe Hoy 說調查員們已經盡到了責任,
另外檢警雙方從案件一開始即同個步調進行. 他直截了當的說如果他打從一開始不認為這
是個有根據的案子, 那他不會進行接下來的一連串動作.
Joe Hoy 說他在聽取女子說她之所以不想再讓這官司進行下去的理由後是百分之一百的
支持她的立場. 不過他以女子的理由屬於私人性質拒絕進一步說明.
他另外對於 Kobe 表示自身度過了艱難的一年感到難以置信.
"During this, Bryant has signed a multimillion-dollar contract, got his own
team and his own coach. He may have lost some endorsements, but he'll get more
back in a few years."
Mark Hurlbert 則是說他有足夠的把握才起訴 Kobe, 然後對整件案子到近期給外界的印
象, 他有如下的說法: I really took my time. The whole idea that the case was
troubled is really something the media made up. I knew that this was going to
be a huge case, and I wanted to be sure that we were on the right track.
另外他說他能對辯方所宣稱的每一件事作出回應, 包括在女子身上和衣物中發現另一位
男性的精子一事及相關的推論. 只是 --- We could have subpoenaed her and brought
her in, but that is something that I am unwilling to do — revictimize an al-
ready fragile person.
他同時否認檢方有扣留任何在這件案子中對 Kobe 有利的證據.
