Casillas – 6: Quick to come off his line this time on two separate occasions.
Other than that, he did not have anything else to do.

Sergio Ramos – 8: Played almost as an attacking midfielder with a free role
and had a hat-trick of chances to score. Didn’t neglect his defensive duties,
though, as he was always in position to kill off any Honduran attack.

Puyol – 7: Swept up everything that got past Pique. Went up to the other end
of the pitch for a few set-piece opportunities, but never got to the end of
anything.

Pique – 8: Roamed all across the backline to cover, especially for Sergio
Ramos, and intercepted everything Honduras could throw at him. Fearless in
bringing the ball forward and played a superb cross-field pass to set Villa on
his way to the goal.

Capdevila – 7: Always provided the overlap in attack down the left wing. Like
Ramos, he didn’t have much to do at the back other than a few easy
interventions to stop Martinez.

Busquets – 7.5: Did well to fill the gaps when his defensive team-mates went
surging forward. Also had his moment in the spotlight when he dribbled past
three defenders towards goal.

Xabi Alonso – 8: Took on the role of the deep-lying playmaker, orchestrating
Spain’s attacks with a delightful range of passes and crosses. Did not put a
foot wrong as he ran the show.

Xavi – 7: Started in an advanced position, playing just behind the forwards.
Involved in every Spanish attack, but didn’t look too sure of his role as he
opted to pass instead of shoot when he had a clear view of goal.

Jesus Navas – 7: Looked too tentative as he rarely took on defenders on the
run. His deliveries into the box were also poor. Not as lively as he always is
as a super-sub but he was more adventurous in the second half.

Torres – 6: Had two glorious chances in the first half but failed to tuck them
away. Clearly still rusty in front of goal but showed some great touches on the
ball.

Villa – 8.5: Terrorised the Honduran defence to no end and even backtracked to
recover possession. Fired in a couple of early warning shots before scoring an
absolute gem of an opener. Missed a penalty, and had enough chances to nab a
hat-trick.

Substitutes:

Fabregas – 7: Could have scored just seconds into his introduction when he
rounded the goalkeeper. Slotted in seamlessly to Xavi’s role.

Mata – 7: Threatening down the left, constantly cutting in to the middle.
Provided countless openings through the middle.
