Strange atmosphere, blissful sound.
Two days ago (already) I went to see autechre’s live at Club Citta. [1] I
felt really lucky because they haven’t been to Japan for seven years. And it
was such an amazing show! I’ve never heard anything like it. It was so DARK
that I couldn’t see anything in the livehouse at all. There were so many
people packed together that I couldn’t move. I kept thinking “how many
people are here?!” I’m sure we were breaking tons of fire codes. (Laugh)
But most importantly, the amazing sound! I’ve never heard such an explosive
electronic sound! My whole body was shaking, even my stomach. Like my insides
were going to fly out my throat. It was that amazing. The strange thing is
that my ears didn’t hurt at all (in itself, a profound mystery). Maybe we
weren’t supposed to see with our eyes but to feel with our ears, bodies, and
hearts. In any case, I felt a lot. A wandering continual noise. A strange
quality. A bizarre groove. Was it music at all? Was it the supreme, blissful
music? I think it was probably the most evolved music there is.
Actually, when my eyes became used to the dark, I could just barely see the
stage by the light of many cell phones. I ended up rushing to the front and
the middle, as if I was being drawn in. What’s really crazy is that so many
people came to hear such progressive music. And it ended at about two in the
morning. It was definitely unusual. Everyone was intoxicated. Definitely
strange. Sean Booth and Rob Brown – either they’re geniuses or totally
crazy. I don’t think they even had computers at the live. Their skill must
be so tremendous. I couldn’t believe it! I think that I ended up not paying
attention to LFO, who was there as a guest (that’s my one regret). It was
too great. The excitement just didn’t stop.
