LOS ANGELES - A few minutes into the Lakers' first true must-win game of the
season, Pau Gasol found a way to tap into the toughness and resiliency his
critics say he lacks.

Ripping down an offensive rebound in traffic under the basket, Gasol absorbed
heavy contact and rose up for a putback, finishing the play with a
tarzan-like bellow. The play proved to be a good omen for the Lakers as the
7-foot Spaniard had his most productive game of the series, scoring 19 points
and grabbing 13 rebounds to help his team come back from a crushing Game 4
loss with a gritty 103-98 victory.

"It was required for us to give our very best effort, intensity and
aggressiveness tonight to be able to bounce back from that loss the other
night," Gasol said. "I know I didn't want to see the Celtics celebrating on
my home floor with champagne and all that."

Since Boston's collapsing perimeter defense has held Kobe Bryant mostly in
check this series, the Lakers felt they needed more production from their
secondary scorers to help compensate. Starters Gasol, Lamar Odom and Derek
Fisher picked up the slack Sunday night, combining for 54 points and sinking
timely baskets after the Celtics erased leads of 19 and 14 points,
respectively.

Lakers most about his performance was his aggressiveness. With Celtics center
Kendrick Perkins inactive as a result of a shoulder injury, Gasol used his
size advantage the way he was unable to when the Celtics went to their
smaller lineup in Game 4, getting both Kevin Garnett and P. J. Brown into
foul trouble.

up-and-under moves, and making him work on defense."

perpetually active Sunday. Not only did he relentlessly battle for loose
balls and rebounds in traffic, he also came up with a key blocked shot on Ray
Allen in the fourth quarter.

Gasol's biggest basket came late in the fourth quarter after the Celtics
reeled off a 16-2 run to tie the game at 90. The Lakers ran an inbounds play
for Gasol, who scored from the low block to give his team a lead it would
never relinquish.

"Pau was terrific," Bryant said. "He was aggressive. I think at both ends of
the floor he did a great job. He had a big block at the end of the game,
which was a big momentum-turner for us."

When the Lakers acquired Gasol via trade at midseason, they envisioned him
providing exactly the interior complement to Bryant he did Sunday. If Gasol
can build on this performance, the Lakers believe they can become the first
team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals.

當湖人在季中騙來嘎獸的時候，就是希望他可以像今晚一樣當摳比不行的時候補上。如果

嘎獸可以持續這樣的演出，湖人相信他們會是總冠軍賽史上第一支1-3落後而逆轉的。

"We're two wins away from a championship, but we also know that without that
first one, we're not going to win that second one," Gasol said. "It's not
going to be easy to get it done in Boston, but we are confident we can do
it."
