Lakers' Radmanovic raises money, donates his own to kids

Vladimir Radmanovic was 11 years old when the fighting began.

戰亂爆發那年，狼人不過是個11歲的小正太。

The Lakers forward watched, from afar, as Yugoslavia, his homeland, was torn
apart by ethnic differences, fractured by politics and changed by boundaries.

狼人的巢穴(家鄉)Yugoslavia(南斯拉夫)因種族血統的不同而分崩離析...

Radmanovic never forgot the images he saw on his television. The bombing. The
guns. The blood.

狼人永遠無法忘掉電視上所看到的爆炸、槍枝、和流血畫面...

But it was the children’s faces, scared and uncertain, that stuck with
Radmanovic. It was those children, left behind by parents who had been called
to war, or worse, left behind when their parents died, that touched him as a
teen.

孩童們臉上滿是恐懼與惶恐，這些孩子的父母有些被徵招到戰場上，有些已經戰死沙場..

這些畫面深深撼動了少年時的狼人。

“It leaves scars no matter what,” he said. “No matter how old you are or
how you live.”

So it’s those faces he remembers when he donates his time and money to his
fledgling foundation.

狼人：「除了恐懼還是恐懼，不管你是幾歲或是如何活著。」所以當他在自己的青少年

基金會(fledgling foundation)貢獻時間與精力時，他依舊記得那些破碎的臉...

Radmanovic held his second annual “Crossing Oceans for Children” dinner and
silent auction Thursday in Santa Monica in an effort to raise funds for
displaced children in Los Angeles and Serbia and Montenegro.

狼人在Santa Monica舉辦了第二屆的「送愛到彼岸」餐會與拍賣會，為移居到L.A.和

Serbia與Montenegro的孩子募集基金。

Last year, the event raised more than $20,000 – Radmonovic matched the
amount – and was used to build greenhouses and a laundromat in Serbia. This
year, Radmanovic is hoping to use the $30,000 raised Thursday, along with
$30,000 of his own, to help children in Southern California through the Five
Aces program.

去年這個活動募集到2萬美元，狼人便捐出等額的2萬美元，用來在Serbia建造溫室(?)和

自助洗衣店。狼人希望用今年募捐到的3萬美元和自己捐出的3萬美元來幫助南非的孩童。

“I don’t believe that one person can change the world, but one person can
push another person to help,” Radmanovic said. “It’s like an avalanche.
You throw a little pebble and another and pretty soon it’s a big ball.

“It’s rolling, it’s going slowly, but I hope people are going to get
involved. I realize how many kids, not only kids – there are a lot of people
everywhere - who are in need.”

的人們還需要援手。」

It would be easy to overlook the needy and homeless amid the glitz and
glamour of Los Angeles. Radmanovic, however, sees each and every face and
knows what it feels like to do without.

身處滿是浮華與榮耀的天使之城，很容易會忽略這些需求和無助，但狼人一件不漏且知道

如果甚麼都不做事情會怎麼樣。

Radmanovic grew up in what used to be Yugoslavia. At age 11, the country’s
civil war started as did his family’s difficulties.

狼人11歲時Yugoslavia的內戰讓他的家庭陷入困境。

His father joined the military and soon the family was on the move. They
first relocated to different military bases, then approximately 200 miles
from their home in Belgrade, where the fighting was fierce.

他的父親從軍，他的家庭也很快的不斷遷徙。他們住在不同的軍事基地，大約距離他們

戰火猛烈的家鄉Belgrade有兩百哩。

He lived in four cities over the span of four years, but as a carefree teen,
he was oblivious to the financial strain the war had put on his family and
the rest of the country.

他在4年之內在4個不同城市間遷居，但是依舊是個少不經事的少年，對於戰爭造成的經濟

問題渾然無覺。

“I was a kid,” he said. “Obviously, at that age, you don’t think about
the consequences of what is happening. You’re living the life, trying to
play and go out with kids your age. Now, from this perspective, I can
understand the kind of struggle my parents had.”

狼人：「我那時還是個孩子，除了玩，啥都不會。現在，我已經可以了解當時我父母內心

的掙扎。」

At age 14, Radmanovic began playing basketball, first for his school team
then for a club team.

14歲的時候狼人開始接觸籃球，一開始在學校，後來則是在俱樂部球隊。

His dream, his goal when the war ended, was to play for his new country’s
national team, Serbia and Montenegro. It was while he was playing for Crvena
Zvezda of Belgrade that NBA scouts got wind of his ability to shoot.

戰爭結束後，他的夢想和目標就是為他的新城市Serbia and Montenegro的球隊打球。

也就是他在Crvena Zvezda of Belgrade的表顯，讓NBA的球探知道他的投射能力。


Soon, more scouts were in the stands watching the sturdy 6-foot-10 forward
average 7.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.

很快，許多球探都對這個平均7.2分和5.5籃板的健壯(?)前鋒虎視眈眈。

“I never dreamed about being a basketball player in the NBA,” Radmanovic
said. “I wanted to play back home. The NBA wasn’t my ultimate goal in the
beginning. But when I realized that I was playing at a level where I can go
to the NBA, I started working more than so I could go. All the scouts and
managers took notice.”

「我從沒想過有天會成為NBA的一員，我寧可回家打球。NBA一開不是我的終極目標，但是

當我發現我的球技足以挑戰NBA時，我開始努力去做到。此時所有的頭探和經理們便注意

到了。」
Radmanovic eventually was drafted in the first round (12th overall pick) by
Seattle in 2001 and was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team. Midway into
his fifth season, Radmanovic was traded to the Clippers, where he finished
out the 2005-06 season before opting out of his contract.

最後狼人在2001時以第一輪第12順位被選入西雅圖超音速隊，且入選NBA新人第二隊。

第五年時被交易到快艇隊並待到合約結束。

A free agent, he then signed with the Lakers in July 2006 and earned a
starting role his second season.

接著在2006以自由球員身分和湖人簽約，在第二季後成為先發。

“Playing in the NBA was a dream for me,” Radmanovic said. “We’re talking
about big dreams but some might be dreaming about (getting a pair of) shoes.
If you can make that dream come true, you give them hope that somewhere there
’s a person who cares about them.”

狼人：「在NBA打球是我的夢想，但有些人的夢想也許只是想有雙鞋...如果你可以讓他們

完成那個夢想，你便可以給他們希望，且知道這世上還有人關心著他們。」
