有看過"I told her that she had so brilliant a recital."
也有"That the U.S. Army has taken al-Baghdad has been proved false."
但不能講"That you needed is sold out."
只能說"What you needed is currently not available."
因為你問的that帶領名詞子句當主詞，
這裡後面的子句本身就是完整的，that是連接詞；
但你原本問的that you needed的情形裡頭，you needed欠一個受詞，
所以這個子句本身是不完整的，而that是作為受詞的關係代名詞，
整個子句是用來修飾先行詞的，所以也欠一個先行詞，
應該要講"The thing(比方說model) you needed is sold out."
至於what本身就等於代替一個先行詞加上關係代名詞了。
