我到底給自己惹了什麼麻煩?
好比男生發現自己入錯行 或女生發現自己嫁錯郎後
就可以這樣說
(比喻得不好 請不要打我 :p)

也有"不到最後, 誰都說不定結果會是如何"的意思

如果是描述"曾跟女友有不愉快" 已經過去了的話
應該用簡單過去式 I had a hard time with my girlfriend.
如果是描述"這陣子都這樣" 還在持續中
則應說 I'm having a hard time with my girlfriend.

想像一個人說這句話時的畫面

補充一下
會說"the fat lady sings"
是由於在歌劇裡 通常女主角在劇末死去之前 都會再高歌一曲
而演女主角的人通常都胖胖的
(其實唱聲樂的身材似乎都比較壯碩些 ^^ )
好像是二十世紀初的紐約 (年代和地點不確定)
一位記者在寫報導時寫下了這句話
便流傳到了今天
