Transcribed Interview
Q. Obviously Marc Rosset has not retired. He played a great game against you.
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Yeah, I think these players are always dangerous, no? They
have the experience; they know how to play. In a Grand Slam event, they all
come with extra motivation. That's already many things to watch out when you
play a guy like him.
As far as I give him a little hopes, I was up a break in the second set, and
he could break me back; the match start to get very close.
That's basically what's happen. It's like a guy who of course have a lot of
potential there and was motivated today, so was a tough one to beat.
Q. You looked very frustrated when he broke you back in that set. Are you
feeling a little bit frustrated with your game at the moment?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Yeah, you know, it's like I'm probably playing, I don't know,
70%, 80%, you know, of what I used to play, what I always expect to play. So
if in the first set, I probably play my best tennis. And then as far as I feel
like this, I want to continue. I have been having troubles to maintain this
level, so that's probably what's get me more frustrated, more angry, you know,
with myself, trying to maintain this level. That's sometimes tough to deal on
the court.
Q. What do you expect from this tournament? Anything special?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Maybe win the next match would be good (laughter). Like today
was a tough fight. But as far as it finish, you know, the feeling to win, it's
always nice. To be alive in the part of the tournament, that's my goals. It's
maintain myself into the tournament and with some hopes.
Q. You've always been a player, the more he plays, if you play long five-
setters, you seem to improve gradually. Do you think it could happen here? Do
you think the more you play, the more chances you get?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Yeah, I'm sure that's going to be right. You know, as more as
I play, as better as my game and my rhythm gets. So today was probably a
complete test, you know, physical, mental.
Also the part at the end, you have to be focus all the time, coming with big
serves, so I had to be mentally prepare from the first point to the end. So
was more than three hours in the court. That's already a big test for me to
start with.
Q. What do you think you need to improve now at the moment in your game?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Probably forehand, backhand, smash, serve, lob, everything
(laughter). I have to improve, and I will try.
Q. What is toughest thing to get back to your best form when you're recovering
from an injury, coming back from injury?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Yeah, I think it's probably to get out of the doubts in your
mind, you know, to really feel like you can keep playing in a good level and
winning match. So probably the mental part I would probably say is the
toughest part to get really straight back together.
