Day 4 - Gustavo Kuerten
Thursday, May 29, 2003
Q. Juan Carlos Ferrero earlier said he's looking forward to playing against
you this year, having lost twice in the semifinals. What do you make of his
form at the moment? What would you think of meeting him again in a possible
semifinal this year?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: For me, is not on my mind, you know. I now have to face
someone in the third round, so whatever he thinks about his way to the
tournament, is up to him. The way I approach, it's going to be my next match.
Q. How do you explain such a one-sided win today?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Well, I think I played tactically perfectly in the court. I
think, you know, one of these days, in your mind you know how to play. As far
as you get to the court, things start to go like you want. It's like everything
come much easier. So I think I had the game in my head before going to the
court very clear, knowing how to play. But it's different when you out there,
you know, and the guy's playing against you. So I just was inspired enough and
very focusing to maintain the same level from the beginning to the end, and
really playing a solid game, you know, a very normal, nothing ups and downs,
too far away from my level, just maintain a good rhythm that was maybe strong
enough for him to keep going into his game.
Q. Are you playing with less pressure this year considering that you are not
necessarily expected to win the tournament?
GUSTAVO KUERTEN: Oh, I think as far as you play this tournament, it's always
some extra pressure, no? It's a big tournament.
