Argentina moves into the final
On Center Court II Jose Acasuso reached his first victory at the Rochus Club
in his third match. The 19 year-old Argentinean won against France's Davis Cup
player Arnaud Clement with 7:6 (1) and 6:3. Both players demonstrated
excellent tennis in the first set with long rallies, with Acasuso winning most
of the big points.
In the following second single Guillermo Canas perfected the victory against
Nicolas Escude with 7:5 and 6:2, laying the foundation for the wildcard team
into the final. Escude could only keep up at the beginning and he then lost
the set with a breakloosing the first set. Guillermo Canas had an easy game
with the indisposed French player after the first set, celebrating his first
win in three encounters. Arnauld Clement and Nicolas Escude secured for Davis
Cup Champion France at least an honorary point in the doubles match with a 0:2
win. In a relaxed and entertaining match, both French players flashed their
abilities and at times they downright overshadowed the Argentineans. This
meant that the move into the final was perfect for the Argentinean wildcard
team.
