WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID
Calleri: "I think I played a very high level tennis today. I tried to have
the same tactics (against David) as Fernando (Gonzalez) yesterday: to be very
aggressive and hit the ball very hard, because he doesn't like that when you
put pressure on him and you don't let him play his own game."
On Argentinean tennis: "I think that each one of us (Argentinean players) is
very happy to be in the semifinal of such a big tournament. I think for the
country this is just something very, very big, to have four players in the
semifinal of such a major event, because it never happened in the past...It's
more like a coincidence of all the sacrifices that each one of us is doing.
Not only the four of us, but also Zabaleta."
"Of course, there is competition among ourselves, but now it's very healthy.
Maybe in the past it was not the same way, but now we all get along fine. Of
course, if I see somebody getting to the final of Wimbledon, then I want to
do the same. But now this rivalry we have is something very healthy."
Where and how did he learn his fabulous backhand: "Maybe it's something that
God gave me."
Coria: On the cramps he suffered at the end of the second set and the third
set: "I feel much better right now. I have to say that the trainer and the
physiotherapist are like genius because they really helped me a lot on the
court. Without them I couldn't have finished the match. In the third set I
knew that I couldn't play long points so I attacked more and everything went
my way."
"I think I will be okay. I have a lot of hours to prepare for the final. I
will eat very well tonight. Tomorrow, the final will be a very long match,
so I need to be ready for that. I'm playing incredible tennis right now. I
mean, the third set I had cramps and I played my best tennis."
On the final: "It will be a very open match. We are both playing probably the
best tennis of our career. Both of us want to win our first Masters Series
title and I will give everything I have to win the title tomorrow."
"It will be great to be the second Argentine after [Guillermo] Vilas to win
here. If it's not me then it's a fellow countryman...[Mariano] Zabaleta came
very close when he lost in the final after having a matchpoint [against
Marcelo Rios in 1999] ."
Nalbandian: "The difficult thing against Calleri is that you never know what
he's going to be doing next. And I played badly on the breakpoints today."
Gaudio: On losing the third set 6-0: "I really don't know what happened. He
started to play better than in the second set. He broke my serve in the second
game of the third set and then I couldn't do anything, it was 3-0 for him. It
was too fast."
