[from ATP] Schuettler Danger to Top Seeds in Chennai Defending champion Guillermo Canas and German Rainer Schuettler continued a successful tournament for the seeds at the Tata Open 2003 in Chennai by advancing to the quarterfinals with ease Thursday. Top seed Canas enjoyed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Czech Jiri Vanek; Schuettler dropped just three games in his 6-2, 6-1 demolition of Mark Philippoussis. At the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, three of the top four seeds - and four of the top six - are still alive. Joining Canas and Schuettler in advancing to the quarterfinals Thursday were Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard and Slovak Karol Kucera, who were both taken to three sets. Lisnard defeated lucky loser Noam Okun 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 ; Kucera defeated Cecil Mamiit (USA) 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-3 #WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID# (節錄) Canas: "I didn't play well today and I'm happy to be in the quarterfinals. I was a little nervous since I wasn't playing my best. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll play better." #FRIDAY PREVIEW# (節錄) Fourth seed Juan Ignacio Chela enjoyed the best season of his career last year when he returned a 46-29 match record and finished the ATP Champions Race 2002 in 23rd place. The Argentine, who won just 10 matches in 2001, shrugged the tag of clay-court specialist by reaching hard court ATP finals in Sydney and Long Island, the quarterfinals of the NASDAQ-100 Open in Miami and the fourth round of the US Open. (His second career title did come on clay in Amersfoort.) Chela plays German qualifier Tomas Behrend for a place in the semifinals. -- ☆小鱷☆ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 61.230.102.137 ※ 編輯: esnique 來自: 61.230.102.137 (01/03 15:25)
