Injured Nalbandian pulls out of Paris Masters Wed 29 October, 2003 12:47 PARIS, Oct 29 (Reuters) - David Nalbandian of Argentina has pulled out of the Paris Masters after failing to recover from a wrist injury which had forced him to withdraw from the Swiss Indoors final last Sunday. Nalbandian, seeded sixth, will now have to wait until the end of the week to see if he has claimed the eighth and last place in the Masters Cup in Houston next month. Even if he qualifies he may not be fit to play, and his tendon injury might eventually need surgery, he said. "I don't know exactly how many weeks I have to rest but I think if I get into Houston, I have a chance to play," he told reporters on Wednesday. The season-ending event starts on November 8. Nalbandian is currently in eighth place with 392 points followed by Mark Philippoussis (322), Sebastien Grosjean (321) and Paradorn Srichaphan (304). The losing finalist at the Paris event, the last of the regular season, wins 70 points and the winner 100. Nalbandian's place in a second round match against Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden on Wednesday will be taken by Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador. The 21-year-old said the wrist injury had affected him since he reached the semi-finals of the U.S. Open in September when he lost to eventual winner Andy Roddick. He will have a scan on Friday or Monday to determine the extent of the injury. "If I don't rest and take treatment it could get much worse and I could need surgery," said Nalbandian whose withdrawal in Basel last weekend handed the title to compatriot Guillermo Coria. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.219.101.22
