Tie Preview
Although Brazil is now in its 11th year in the elite World Group
and Sweden has featured in 21 previous years of World Group play,
these two countries have never crossed paths in Davis Cup before
this tie. It will be fascinating to see which of the two teams
will win this important first encounter.
Sweden has chosen to host this tie on a fast indoor carpet court,
in the hope of blunting their visitors' clay court rallying skills.
The last time Brazil won a tie on indoor carpet came in 1991 against
Uruguay in the American Zonal Group 1 competition. The Swedish team
must surely hope that this choice of surface will play to their
advantage against a Brazilian team that has limited experience on carpet.
However, both teams are in the top 10 ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking -
Sweden is 6th and Brazil 9th - and anything is possible in Davis Cup.
