After Jonas Bjorkman won a breathtaking five-setter over Kuerten in the fourth rubber, it was up to ‘Vinci’ to finish up the job for the home team against Saretta, who replaced Andre Sa for the occasion at the last moment. Unlike Friday where it took him a whole set to relax and start playing his game, Vinciguerra started strong. Running around his backhand to blast his huge forehands all over the court, the 21-year-old Swede dictated play all through the opening set, while Saretta was a little too passive and too erratic from behind his baseline. The second set was another story however. The first three games went against serve, as Saretta went on to lead 3-1 and then 4-2. Moving better, he was making the Swede run around the court, getting every ball back, and forcing Vinci to make mistakes. But Vinciguerra wanted to make up for his loss of Friday, and kept fighting harder and harder. After coming back to 4 all, he had to save three break points in the 11th game, coming back from 0-40. And he kept the momentum on his side to break Saretta at love in the following game and capture the set. From then on, Vinciguerra couldn't be stopped as Saretta couldn't sustain the level. He broke in the fourth game of the third set, and kept his advantage until the end. When Saretta's last forehand return landed long, Vinciguerra ran into captain Mats Wilander's arms. Once again, Sweden had come back from a critical situation to clinch victory in a Davis Cup tie. "It's an incredible feeling to win this last match" said Vinciguerra. "Sure we're disappointed at the result”, said Brazilian captain Ricardo Acioly. “My players played great but didn't win the crucial points. But I'm proud of them, and I think we have many great moments ahead of us in Davis Cup." In the quarterfinals, Sweden will host Australia in Malmo. Another big challenge for Wilander and his boys. "It's going to be tough, and the choice of surface will be difficult. But sure I could think of a tougher challenge" said Mats Wilander. "We could have drawn Argentina in Argentina. But I think it's great to receive in Sweden players such as Gustavo Kuerten and now Lleyton Hewitt. I look forward to the next tie." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 218.165.183.107
